BoopTennis Posted September 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Hi, I just wondered if this is typical. We are booked on a Cruise on the Island over Christmas 2018 (over a year from now). I always watch pricing and just a couple days ago it shows NO cabins available anywhere for a 3-person or 4-person cabin. I was surprised by that. Is that typical this far out? Or does it have something to do with the current promotion that extends benefits to all passengers in a cabin?
Wishing on a star Posted September 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2017 I don't know about your specific cruise, but I understand that Princess does limit occupancy, number of minors, etc.. on the Holiday cruises. There was a recent thread from someone who did not book for their teen/young adult for Christmas this year. Then, it became possible for their kid to be able to come. And, while I think that they have been watching for any cancellations or availablility, they might not be able to bring their kid, Even though there are 3rd/4th beds there. I don't think this should have anything to do with the current promotion.
Rare Itchy&Scratchy Posted September 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2017 keep checking. We are going on Thanksgiving 2017, and two weeks ago all of them were sold out on Fri, and back on the market on Monday. Then two-person cabins were "sold out", and now a bunch of them are on the market. During the day I keep checking, and every time it's a different result. BoopTennis Posted September 5, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted September 5, 2017 thank you. It just seemed unusual.
cherylandtk Posted September 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 5, 2017 It seems odd to me, too. Perhaps it is a programming glitch related to the new promotion that started today (and this cruise is on the promo list). You might try calling Princess and asking if they are already at capacity for 3/4 bookings. I see many open cabins, including those that can hold 3/4, as unbooked when I look for just double occupancy....which leads me to believe it is a programming issue rather than an actual occupancy limit issue. likeadisguise Posted September 5, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Island Princess has almost no 3rd or 4th berths that can be booked (regardless of cabin size) because of the refurbishment they did a few years ago, when they added over 100 new cabins. The max capacity of the ship hasn't really changed, so it's almost all lower berths.
Colo Cruiser Posted September 5, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 5, 2017 Call Princess and they will tell you whats up with the cruise and if they are really all sold out for 3rd and 4th passengers.
MarkSeattle Posted September 6, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2017 ...Princess does limit occupancy, number of minors, etc.. on the Holiday cruises. ... I think they limit the number of 3/4 per cabin, but not minors. I was on a Thanksgiving or Christmas cruise, don't remember which one, and while talking to a Casino employee on break he said business was really down because there were 1800 minors on this cruise and 1400 last week, or something similar, so if they do limit minors it's not until they're the majority of the ship. Princess does limit minors. Last years we were unable to cruise with our friends because the 4-8 year old group on Regal has reached the limit. We had a 5 yo kid. They were also placed on a waiting list (they had a 10 yo and an 8 yo), and as soon as someone cancelled their reservation, they got booked. We went with a different ship. They must have either waived the limit due to the holidays, not enforce the rule system wide, or we had an exceptionally large number of older teens or kids home from college over the holidays on ours who don't need kids club. MarkSeattle Posted September 6, 2017 #14 Share Posted September 6, 2017 Mark.... I wouldn't take that one comment from a casino staff too literally.... True, but the ship was overflowing with kids. Surprisingly, it was less of an issue than on other cruises with few children. After one Christmas and 2 Thanksgiving cruises, I'm not convinced they enforce a cap fleetwide and year round. But I don't doubt others have run into a cap before. These were also all in the 3 years prior to last year, which we skipped since we moved.
