justluv2cruisewithhubby Posted September 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2017 We are on a 14 day cruise leaving Sydney sailing to New Zealnd then back to Sydney. During this cruise will Royal ask to take our passport on this type of sailing?
misterb25 Posted September 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2017 You will only need to show your passports when embarking. First at the RCCL check in desk and then as you go through immigration.

Aus Traveller Posted September 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2017 New Zealand is one of the countries where you must take photo ID with you when you go ashore. Security on the wharf will inspect it before allowing you to get near the ship. They require government-issued ID - passport or driver's licence (if it has a photo). There will be an announcement on the ship, but it is easy to miss this. :)
megsie Posted September 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Agree about taking your photo I'd in NZ when going ashore. In one port (Napier I think) as the buses approached the port, port security boarded and checked all. The non compliant went to jail - a bus shelter and had to have ship's security id them. That was a couple of years ago, might have changed since.

In your case with your son, it may be best to have the passports rather than the copy.

Aus Traveller Posted September 11, 2017 #11 Share Posted September 11, 2017 Would a proof of age card work for a teenager? Many thanks Does it have a photo? (Sorry I don't know the answer to this because when my kids were teenagers we didn't have such a card.) If it has a photo, then it would be OK. By the way, the ship's crew use their ship-issued ID card that has a photo so passports and driving licences are not the only IDs acceptable. Rare MicCanberra Posted September 11, 2017 #12 Share Posted September 11, 2017 If you need to have passports for the cruise, it is easiest just take them for your day in port.

Aus Traveller Posted September 12, 2017 #15 Share Posted September 12, 2017 So i am ok taking either take my passport or my US drivers license onshore? The drivers licence is OK as long as it has your photo. The old-style ones without photos are no good.
