Any CAS people get upgraded with Upgrade Advantage with a comped room?

I'm on the Epic as well on December 9th and was comped a lowly inside via their mailer vs. my next 2 cruises being comped at oceanview at least. The cost to upgrade to a balcony through CAS was an additional $700 for two people. My buddy and I decided to gamble a little and did the bid for $150 apiece through the upgrade advantage. It's only a 1 week cruise and if it works I've saved a few hundred of the upgrade cost if not, well, maybe I'll be able to win big with the extra money lol. I'll try calling CAS again as we get closer to the sail date and see if they can help out.
I had the same situation last year and declined the first CAS offer. Kept doing mock bookings and the balconies seemed plentiful so about a month out called CAS again and we paid either $100 or 120 each to upgrade.

Yes we had upgraded to the Haven (H4) and still received a bid offer. We didn't bid and unfortunately a few weeks later had to cancel the cruise due to illness ( yes we had travel insurance).

Same here. We were comped an inside but upgraded to the Haven H4 on Breakaway. Last week we received the email to upgrade to the H2 or H3 starting at $750 for person. We didn't bother because we like the H4. We've been in the same room for 27 days so far. They couldn't pay us to change it. 😁

Not all CAS reps are the same............

After seeing this thread I decided to call CAS and got a new rep on the phone. I was comped an H7 and upgraded to the H6 at the time of booking. I am 3 weeks out from sailing. My offers for the H2/H3 has a starting low bid of $750 and a high up to $2000 pp. I was quoted $2200 for the H3 and $6600 for the H2. Knowing what my bid offers were I decided to ask a few questions regarding perks...the rep insisted I would only keep my old perks "because you already received the free at sea at time of booking since it was a haven comp" and would not receive the new $1000 OBC that is being offered now. I know this not to be true, I should have been told I would loose my ValuePak but would gain $600 OBC. Per this new rep I would be paying $2600 more then the upgrade advantage program top bid amount ($4000) and still not receive the $600 OBC. (FYI I know through the bid system my OBC and ValuePak remains the same as I had at the time of booking)

I do plan on following up on Monday with my normal rep because the information given was completely wrong.

I got the 600 OBC when they moved me from suite to Haven suite. I leave 11/10.

Cool, that is what it is supposed to be, this rep was very new and obviously did not know this. Truthfully I called out of curiosity and have no plans on moving since I have family in the adjoining and 3 other AFT cabins next to me.

Yes it is possible. We had an inside comped through CAS for the Nov 5th sailing on Getaway. Upgraded to a mini-suite with the 3rd and 4th sail free promo as my son and granddaughter are coming with us (we wanted the extra bathroom space). Just got notified yesterday that we were upgraded to the Deluxe Owner's Suite through our bid. This is the 2nd time we have been able to upgrade from an inside comp-we paid to upgrade our comp room-- to the DOS. Last time it was on the Pearl and we really enjoyed the jaccuzi when we were sailing through the glaciers in Alaska!

Unfortunately, now my family thinks this should happen every vacation!

I had a comped inside CAS (actually land based casino offer). I bid for a Balcony and my bid was accepted. This was on the Dawn Thanksgiving week 2017. Response came within days, weeks ahead of the cruise.

Trying it again for a spring break cruise in a couple of months.

Those of you who called CAS to see if an upgrade was available.....how far out from your cruise departure did you call? Thanks.

Upgrade via CAS is at cost and pricing has been firm when I have asked. I have asked at booking and closer to sail date.

My Upgrade Advantage bid was accepted two weeks from sail date, a few days after submission.

My upgrade bids have never been accepted. I'm leaving on 2/3 on the Gem and had bid in the upper fair category-$90 per person. When I originally bid, almost 2 months ago, the difference in cabin price was $150. The difference has dropped to $50. I lowered my bid to $70, which is still over bidding. Should I call or will they still give me a set fee of $150 pp. I can only call CAS on Friday afternoons as I work 4 1/2 days and can not call from work.

Hi 1smudslide,

Do a mock booking on your current stateroom category and when the little pop up box appears offering you a price to upgrade to the next category, if that is less than your bid of $70.00 or the price differnence of $50.00 call and tell or your CAS rep that.

If there are a LOT of the next category staterooms, tell your CAS rep what you are willing to pay to upgrade to the next category. You might get lucky and they may accept your offer. Or ask the CAS rep if they are willing to upgrade you for free. It doesn't hurt to ask. The worst case scenario is you remain in the stateroom category that CAS comped you.

Enjoy your cruise

Regards,

Vinegarjoe

I've watched the prices of the category I wanted and when it was closer to the value of my comped cabin I've called. Remember your comped cabin is usually a top cabin in that category. The dollar gap to another higher cabin usually isn't that bad. (Like from OA to BD).

I think it's been about 40 to 50 days before sail date. The CAS agents are super nice about checking for you. You might want to try calling on your lunch break or something if you think the price is right. It doesn't take long when you talk to them but some days you are on hold for awhile. Other days I've gotten through in a couple of minutes and then it just takes another couple of minutes to have them check on that upgrade cost.

Hi there, I'm in the same situation.

Care to share how much you bid? I bid $120. Haven't heard yet; my sailing is still 50+ days out.

Thanks for the help!
