time4sun Posted October 12, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2017 We will be on a Princess cruise in Fort Lauderdale the first week, and then switching to a RCCL cruise the day we return, does anyone have advice as to getting from point a to point b and whether we can at least drop our luggage as soon as we get off the first cruise? Is it worth renting a car for a few hours or will there be a place to wait that early in the am? We are Diamond and we are also Elite on Princess if that makes a difference! Thanks in advance!! 1025cruise Posted October 12, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Take your time getting off the first ship. You will probably need to take a taxi to the other ship. Negotiate with a driver a set fee (probably equivalent to the airport) to do this and then wait to get on. By the time you get to the second ship, the porters should be accepting luggage. Check with Guest Services on the first cruise. There may be some sort of a shuttle you can use to go to another cruise terminal.
Sam's Mom Posted October 12, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 12, 2017 We did a Celebrity back to back to back 6 years ago (before kids). The first 5 days were on the Millennium and then we were on the Eclipse for two 7 day cruises. We stayed on the Millennium as late as we could. When they finally kicked us off we went outside prepared to take a taxi, but luckily the Eclipse was the next ship over. So we just walked over and they were already starting to take bags. We were Elite status, so they checked us right in.
asctony Posted October 12, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 12, 2017 Do it a lot. Princess should be at Terminal 2 and RCI at Terminal 18. You can see both ships if they are at these piers. If they are, it looks very close for a walk from one to the other. However, you must go out of the Terminal/Pier then walk to the next pier which increases the walk. Pulling luggage is another chore. I would suggest, unless you are young, get a cab and just tell cabbie that you will give him/her $10 to take you to that ship. Stay on the ship getting off later, then you can get to the next ship and drop off your luggage. If you get to the next ship too early, you will run into the other passengers getting off and it will be a big crowd. If you want to rent a car, you can use Budget 17 & quay st. They will pick you up at the port and then return the car at same location. They will take you to the ship. That would run you about $50 for the car. If your a shopper, lots of place to shop such as Sawgrass Mills, Flea Markets, etc. There is a Ross and Dollar Store close to the Budget Rental. Google this to see more. Hope this helps you! Happy Cruising!!!!!
cb at sea Posted October 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 12, 2017 RCI's cabins are not ready as fast as on a Princess ship. I would go with a rental car...do some laundry somewhere...kill some time! There's no huge rush to board...it's at least 11am, if not a bit more until boarding starts.
Clarea Posted October 13, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2017 Another option is to take an Uber the next cruise to drop bags, then jump back in the Uber and go to Total Wine or Public on 17th St right outside the port entrance. Do some shopping for wine and/or supplies for the next cruise. Take an Uber back to the next cruise.
