jmarks Posted October 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2017 There are several different classes of balcony cabins listed but all show the same photo and square footage. Can anyone explain the differences, if any? Which would be considered "the best"?
chrysalis Posted October 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Not sure what ship you are referring to, but generally the differences are location
Wishing on a star Posted October 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Yes... for a standard balcony cabin, Mid-ship on a Middle deck are usually considered 'better', more desired/valuable.
neverbeenhere Posted October 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Staterooms towards the center of the ship are usually considered upgrades. Of course, wake facing balconies are another case.
fishywood Posted October 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Pretty much just the location. The highest ranked balcony cabins have a numeral for the second digit (B1, B2, et al). They are located either midship on a middle deck or overlooking the stern. For standard balcony cabins (BA, BB, etc.) Princess proiritizes them by presumed location preference: Closer to midship better than more forward or aft; Towards the aft usually a letter better than equivalent forward cabins; Lowest ranked are cabins with a public deck above or below rather than between two decks of cabins only. Also note Royal/Regal/Majestic Princess have Obstructed View Balcony cabins with codes from the bottom of the alphabet (BZ, BY. BX...)
neverbeenhere Posted October 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Also: a BA is to Bare A**, a BE is an album by Common.
jmarks Posted October 20, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted October 20, 2017 talking about the Sapphire here. I could get a BB closer to the front or a BD closer to the rear. BD is across the hall from the laundry so I wondered about noise from that
jennybenny Posted October 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2017 It's just the location on the ship. The cruise line considers BA the best location. BE is less favorable to them. However, people's personal preferences decide what location works best for them. The two categories will be the same "cabin" just different location on the ship

BD is across the hall from the laundry so I wondered about noise from that On Sapphire the BB cabins are mid-forward or mid-aft on Baja deck; or midship on Aloha deck. The BD cabins are towards the rear on Baja or Caribe deck. But the ones on Caribe will have larger balconies than the others. So higher and closer to midship get the better ranking. But many people prefer Caribe deck due to the larger half covered/half open balconies throughout.
Pam in CA Posted October 20, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 20, 2017 Square footage includes the balcony. That accounts for the variety of sizes. Caribe balcony cabins have much larger balconies so they are listed with more square footage.
