No more Transderm Scop patch....

My wife and I are getting ready for upcoming cruises including the Carnival Conquest in January. She uses the patch, just got her prescription and have discovered the drugstores report they no longer have, and wont be getting, the drug. I called Sandoz directly this afternoon and was told they stopped manufacturing the product last month! This is a serious problem. She relies on scopolamine for her seasickness. This could literally become a cruise deal breaker! Not good.

I use sea bands, and bring Bonine in case that isn't enough. I also bring Gin Gin Hard Ginger candy to suck on if nauseated (bought online through Amazon). I'm confused as to why they are not making the patches anymore. As a retired RN, we used these frequently when I was still working. I just googled them, and you can still buy them online. If they are the only thing that helps your wife, check online.

Is there a generic brand to replace the brand no longer available? Was it prescribed by a doctor? Seems weird that a doctor would prescribe something you can no longer get?

I think the OP must have misunderstood, because my research shows it is still available. It has not been discontinued.

The generic for this patch was just released in July or August. I know because it had literally just been released a week before I picked up patches in August for a cruise we were on in September. I had expected to pay the full price and was surprised when they told me the price. It was less than 10% of what I had budgeted on them.

Whew, that got me worried for a while!

The scop patches are the only things (prescribed,OTC, herbal, acupressure, aromatherapy all included) that deal with my seasickness enough that I can enjoy cruising. And cruising is the only way I can travel as other forms of transport are unsuitable.

I won't need any more patches for almost a year (unless we book something at the last minute), was thinking perhaps I should try to stock up on them, but it appears that I won't need to :)

I take Meclazine. It always works for me (prescription).
