ChuckinSC Posted October 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2017 My wife and I are getting ready for upcoming cruises including the Carnival Conquest in January. She uses the patch, just got her prescription and have discovered the drugstores report they no longer have, and wont be getting, the drug. I called Sandoz directly this afternoon and was told they stopped manufacturing the product last month! This is a serious problem. She relies on scopolamine for her seasickness. This could literally become a cruise deal breaker! Not good.
grandmarnnurse Posted October 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2017 I use sea bands, and bring Bonine in case that isn't enough. I also bring Gin Gin Hard Ginger candy to suck on if nauseated (bought online through Amazon). I'm confused as to why they are not making the patches anymore. As a retired RN, we used these frequently when I was still working. I just googled them, and you can still buy them online. If they are the only thing that helps your wife, check online. Drazil65 Posted October 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 26, 2017 Is there a generic brand to replace the brand no longer available? Was it prescribed by a doctor? Seems weird that a doctor would prescribe something you can no longer get?
sunonfire Posted October 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2017 I just checked with my Publix pharmacy in Florida. They have not heard that the Transderm Scop patch was being discontinued. I was told the Publix pharmacy now has a generic patch.
Bayou Cruisin Posted October 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 26, 2017 Must have just discontinued them. I had a script filled in June for my cruise. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

jeff92k7 Posted October 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 26, 2017 The generic for this patch was just released in July or August. I know because it had literally just been released a week before I picked up patches in August for a cruise we were on in September. I had expected to pay the full price and was surprised when they told me the price. It was less than 10% of what I had budgeted on them. eileenfa Posted October 26, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 26, 2017 My dr just ordered it last week and I’m picking them up today for next Saturday’s Cruise. Wallgreens had to order them. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
ButterflyGirly Posted October 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 27, 2017 Good to know there is a generic. Brand name is tier 3 on my plan which means $75 co-pay. Generic should be tier 1 -$10.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 27, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 27, 2017 I would stop by to speak with your pharmacist about this. Keith
pixiedust777 Posted October 27, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 27, 2017 In Canada it does not require a script from a doctor. You have to ask for them at the pharmacist counter. Costco has them. Box of 3 patches is $10. Just picked up 3 boxes. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Slugsta Posted October 27, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 27, 2017 Whew, that got me worried for a while! The scop patches are the only things (prescribed,OTC, herbal, acupressure, aromatherapy all included) that deal with my seasickness enough that I can enjoy cruising. And cruising is the only way I can travel as other forms of transport are unsuitable. I won't need any more patches for almost a year (unless we book something at the last minute), was thinking perhaps I should try to stock up on them, but it appears that I won't need to :)
eileenfa Posted October 30, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 30, 2017 My dr prescribed it for me, the pharmacy ordered it and the whole thing took a week. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
