Princess Insurance Question?

If we purchase the Princess Insurance, is the amount of the Medical portion dependent on the length of the cruise or the ports or parts of the world visited? Or is it always the same amount?

Doesn anyone take additional insurance for Medical? For those of us in the States, Medicare doesn't cover our medical out of the country

The insurance for medical, only takes effect after your own health insurance.

I gone I'll while on the Grand Princess, when I got home I contacted Medicare and my secondary insurance. Medicare doesn't cover illness outside the country or on a cruise ship, however, my secondary insurance covered 100% of the cost encurred, over $1100.00. The insurance you purchase from princess will cover anything you primary or secondary insurance doesn't cover.

But don't forget the princess insurance covers more than just health issues

Hope this help

I dont get princess insurance because I think the amounts are too low - I can get better travel insurance for the same price (and that will cover everything such as flights)

I think that is where we may be leaning. Even with the Princess Platinum plan, the medical coverage is $20,000....which may be enough, but most likely not, if something really bad hppened.

We have the princess plan for our upcoming trip to Mexico...only 5 days...so we will take our chances. But for our 25 day Med cruise next year, we will have to really do our homework.

You might want to take a look at MedJetAssist ... an annual membership, not an insurance .... which provides transportation for members from anywhere more than 150 miles from home to the hospital of one's choice in the event that one gets sick or has some sort of accident, and is hospitalized while away from home area, at no additional cost beyond the membership fee. It does not cover medical expenses like insurance does, but IMO it's reassuring to know that once one is medically cleared to be moved to a hospital at home, they will come get you and provide whatever medical escort is needed for the trip. If you are a member of AARP, the membership fee is discounted.

This is what I have chosen in addition to using the Princess insurance for the medical coverage.

Thanks for the info....I will look into it!

I forget the exact amount, but it is a constant % of the fare.

I did have to use medical once, and as a poster states, you have to send a claim to your own health insurance before your cruise insurance kicks in.

We had a carry-on stolen in Venice airport and lost some stuff and our Passports (never again in the carry-on!). The insurance paid everything including train tickets to Milano, where the US Consulate replaced the passports. We were on the hook for Passports as they are not covered.

You may want to check whether the Princess insurance covers you when you are off the ship at the various ports. When we checked, it did not, so we bought another travel plan (about $500 for both of us), that covers us door to door, for the entire year. Since we took three cruises this year, we felt it was worthwhile.

The Medical Protection under Princess Vacation Protection covers any medical expense during the Covered Cruise Vacation - not just while onboard the ship. Look at When Coverage Begins and When Coverage Ends on page 8 of the Princess Vacation Protection brochure for the details. It also covers accidents and illnesses during flights or hotel stays booked through Princess.

Also, to let other Medicare cruisers know: The Medicare "Advantage" Plans do not cover

international travel, however, the Medicare "Supplemental/ Medigap" plans do (most

of them.

Before the over 65 people get upset about that- please know that the Supplemental plans

are much more expensive but if you live in a rural type area, that is all you can get!

So, at least it does something for me when traveling outside of the USA

What is the name of this travel plan?

Thanks!

Check your Senior Advantage plan carefully. Kaiser Senior Advantage in Southern California covers worldwide. However it is secondary so you need a primary payer secondary policy in event of foreign medical/hospital. Squaremouth.com has such policies.

Would you expand on this please. We are with Kaiser in No Cal and they confirmed that Kaiser also cover medical evacuation. We take Princess insurance as well.

Kaiser Senior Advantage Southern ca covers medical expense worldwide

no evacuation to best of my knowledge. If hospitalized anywhere other

than your local you must call the Kaiser at number listed on their worldwide packet. For medical service you pay and then file claim with them.

I have used this in past. Now I buy policy from Squaremouth.com usually

Tin Leg Insurance as they are primary carrier and have evacuation policy. They claim to contact hospital and arrange payment so you do not

have to pay on the spot. Have not experienced this.

Many options and coverage. I have filed 2 claims with them for treatment

received onboard ship with excellent service.

Hope this helps.
