gkbiiii Posted December 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 20, 2017 My question is: the official Cruise Critic of MSC Seaside, gave it a review score is 4.5/5.0 while; the MSC Meraviglia received a perfect 5.0/5.0 score. Why then was Meraviglia, not named 2017 Ocean Ship of the Year?
sidari Posted December 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 20, 2017 Why not Majestic Princess?
Two Wheels Only Posted December 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 20, 2017 Maybe the review (1 person) isn't the same as the consensus of CC "of the year" voters.
gkbiiii Posted December 20, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted December 20, 2017 But this was the Head Editor's Official Review, I thought that the final deciding factor. How is a lessor scored ship, better than the better rated ones? I agree, what about the new Princess ship?
sidari Posted December 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 20, 2017 Having sailed on Majestic I will let you know after our Seaside sailing over Xmas.
tidecat Posted December 21, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2017 It’s a marketing ploy aiming solely at American cruisers’ wallets. Meraviglia will be in North America eventually, but that won’t drive bookings in the American market in the near term.
deliver42 Posted December 21, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 21, 2017 I also believe that the Seaside is an entirely new ship from the ground up. The Merivigalia appears to have copied RCCL's Oasis Class, and the new Princess ship is nothing more than another Royal Class.
Two Wheels Only Posted December 21, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 21, 2017 The Merivigalia appears to have copied RCCL's Oasis Class,... Huh? How?
deliver42 Posted December 21, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 21, 2017 How about the split cabin areas in the aft,ala central Park on RCCL. and the promenade, which is a little different, but the same idea.

I think that you're thinking of this.... ...which is NOT Meraviglia. Meraviglia (below, currently in service) is not the unnamed/not yet built MSC World Class ship (above). sidari Posted December 21, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 21, 2017 Meraviglia is just a larger version of the Fantasia class such as Divina.
voyager89 Posted December 22, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 22, 2017 Cause the Seaside is a totally new and different design not just to MSC but the whole industry. Meraviglia is just another regular ship, aside from being beautiful I don´t see anything extra special about it.

Seaside may be a new design for MSC, but the waterfront promenade has been a staple on Carnival and Norwegian for a while now. About the only real differentiation on the Seaside class is the “Miami condo” design on the aft facing staterooms. While it was never built, Fincantieri had proposed building a ship for Carnival with the aft facing elevators back in the mid-2000s. Fincantieri, of course, is builidng the Seaside class ships. They are also building “Project Leonardo” for Norwegian, which is based on the same design as MSC Seaside, what Fincantieri refers to as “Project Mille”. Which Carnival and Norwegian ships have what you consider a waterfront promenade that looks like Seaside? Just curious.
fraffin Posted December 22, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 22, 2017 Which Carnival and Norwegian ships have what you consider a waterfront promenade that looks like Seaside? Just curious. I've been on the Carnival Breeze, and it definitely has an outdoor promenade feel.

CTBob Posted December 22, 2017 #17 Share Posted December 22, 2017 NCL Breakaway, Getaway, Escape, Joy, and Bliss (currently being built) all have The Waterfront.I've been on the Breakaway and did enjoy their waterfront. I'll let you know in about a month how the Seaside's compares. I've already picked out my bar that is similar to the one I liked on the Breakaway.
