Summit Employee Nationalities

We'll be starting back-to-back cruises on the Summit this Saturday and I was hoping that those who have recently cruised the Summit can tell me the main nationalities of the employees onboard. We like to learn a few phrases of their languages before arriving on the ship. It's fun and they always enjoy the effort we've made. Thank you in advance.

Incredibly varied but always many from Phillippines, many from Goa (India), many from eastern European countries, and of course, Greece. There could be as many as 50 different nationalities on board.

When we were on Summit, they told us that there were over 60 different nationalities on board.

Most all speak English. :)

 

Have phrases in French, Spanish, and Tagalog handy and you'll be ahead of the curve. Anything from the Eastern European countries are usually also represented. Honestly, I would think that it would be better to just ask them to teach you a greeting versus trying to memorize so many in advance.

I usually ask staff members from countries I have never visited to teach me different phrases or a simple please and thank you in their native language. This last cruise our waiter in Luminae was from Serbia, and the hostess was from Kenya. They enjoyed teaching me, and I appreciated learning something new.

In my younger years I could get by in a country with just 6 sentencesin the local language:

3 I would like to pay please

4 Hello

5. I Love You

6 Goodbye
