gerelmx Posted January 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 10, 2018 I have been monitoring the navigation of the Eclipse, today I received email from Marine Traffic. Eclipse on his way to St Thomas arrived in San Juan: at 2018-01-10 02:10 Local Time and departed at 2018-01-10 03:24 Local Time. What could have caused this stop of 1 hour and 14 minutes? Any comments that caused this stop? I think: 1) a medical evacuation that is too long, 2) They left supplies for the damaged island She just arrived to St Thomas at 2018-01-10 08:17 Local Time
G.M.T. Posted January 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 10, 2018 Medical emergency or someone was politely asked to leave the ship.
citruscruiser Posted January 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 10, 2018 There was a strong earthquake off Honduras last night, maybe it was precautionary, as there was a tsunami warming that was later cancelled.
wendychloecruiser Posted January 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2018 It would seem to me that if there was a tsunami warning then the safest place for ships would be in deep water, not close to shore. Tsunamis become increasingly more dangerous and gain strength and speed as water depth decreases.
Rare C-Dragons Posted January 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) The Tsunami warning was issued shortly after 10 pm after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Honduras. The warning was canceled after about an hour. The area where the Silhouette stopped, in San Juan, was not in the path of the Tsunami.
