Info on The Porch Restaurant

We were on Silhouette last week and had lunch at the Porch one day. On our sailing it was open daily for lunch and dinner, including port days, but that may not be true on every sailing. On our Reflection sailing a couple of years ago, the Porch was our favorite restaurant and we ate lunch there every day (we had the Ultimate Dining Package, which is no longer available, but it effectively made the lunch there free). Anyway, we noticed that the menu had changed a bit since then, and I'm sorry to say that IMO it was not for the better. The seafood tower was still good (fresh-tasting and plump steamed mussels, clams, scallops shrimp and lobster tail), but most of the rest of what we ordered (mahi tacos, grilled branzino, hamachi crudo, even their cheese bread) was pretty underwhelming.

If you're not a seafood lover, the $30 price tag is insane for the food - the only item that is really worth any sort of extra fee is the seafood tower. $30 is pretty high for lunch in any case, and they weren't offering any discounts on our sailing despite the restaurant sitting half empty most of the time. Service was sloooooooooooooooooooow, too. It looked as though they had one server doing wine/drink service for both Porch and Lawn Club, and she was completely overwhelmed.

It's too bad, because the space is really beautiful and the view during the day is lovely - it would be an ideal place for a quiet lunch if the service were better and the price a bit less outrageous.

When we had the UDP we ate at the Porch for lunch most days... and dinner a couple of times. If you like seafood it is a nice option. Now that there isn't an UDP--we will have to weigh where we will spend any specialty dining dollars.

On our last sailing there were special events that occupied the MDR so no concierge lunch--and we ate at The Porch on embarkation. Was a nice leisurely meal. Not sure what the hours are--I dont think it is open daily for lunch any longer. The website makes it look like a dinner venue. Perhaps it is open sea days for lunch.

On our Silhouette sailing last week it was open daily for lunch EXCEPT on embarkation day, but that may not be true on all sailings. IMO, it's much nicer as a lunch venue given the open air construction and the view, but $30 is far too large an upcharge for most people to pay for lunch. I was disappointed that it wasn't open for lunch on embarkation, since that is the absolute worst day to eat lunch in the buffet and now there really is no other option. On our previous sailing a couple of years, Porch was open for lunch on embarkation and sea days only, although it did open at 3pm on port days so we were able to use the UDP for a late lunch, which was fantastic. I'm really bummed they did away with the UDP.

We were on the Silhouette Jan. 14th-26th and tried the Porch one evening. Here are a few notes.

1) How can they call this a seafood restaurant ? There is exactly one (1) type of fish available. Yes you heard correctly ONE. And it was of the frozen variety. My wife ordered it, and this miniscule piece was served on a large plate, all by itself. No veggies, no starch, no nothing. Pretty pathetic considering the cost.

2) I had the seafood tower. Except it is not a tower. It came in a basic aluminum bowl, on a bed of ice. The taste and quality was fine, but the quantity was very lacking - especially the lobster part.

3) We had two different appetizers, and they were very ordinary.

From our perspective, and we love seafood, we will never eat there again. Not even if it was free.
