Regal Princess - Party of five

We are new to Princess. A group of five members of my family are cruising together on Regal this spring. This is the largest group I have cruised with, and five seems like an awkward number. I have some questions specific to our group size.

  • We have anytime dining - will it make the wait for a table excessively long?
  • Are there tables that comfortably seat five in venues like Crooners?
  • Could we find loungers together in the Sanctuary?
  • Would a bungalow on Princess Cayes work for five?
  • Can the five of us fit comfortably in my mini-suite cabin for a some socializing and a pre-dinner glass of wine?

Also, one member of our party is an older, very sweet, very excitable lady who has not been on a cruise in decades. It's almost like planning a trip to Disneyland with a kid. Do you think we could talk her steward into making her a couple towel animals (with an extra tip of course)? Are there other suggestions to make her trip extra fun?

Thanks in advance

A lot of the answers are "it depends." Dining table--you'll get a 6 top. Make a reservation that morning if you know when you want to eat that evening. Sanctuary chairs--reserve the together. Fitting in your mini-suite--you don't have 5 chairs, but if some of you don't mind sitting on a bed, there is room. Crooners--get 2 tables next to each other.

We sat next to a couple at dinner on our last cruise; the woman was having different animals made each night. I don't know why your steward wouldn't do it.

For the Sanctuary if you want five chairs in close proximity then all five of you need to head straight there as soon as you board to pick your chairs for which day(s) you plan to reserve. Are you planning to reserve the entire cruise or just certain days?

Unfortunately both the regular and Sanctuary Bungalows on Princess Cays state "maximum 4 people" in the shore excursions descriptions (which I'm sure you have perused already). But what's to stop the fifth person from joining you after you check in?

Everything else should be no problem. In the bars such as Crooner's people move chairs as they please all the time. If you get lucky your steward may have previously worked for a line that does the towel animals, or they may know a co-worker who can do a couple.

There is seating for 3 on the sofa and 2 chairs in the living room of the mini suites on Regal, so you should be able to fit all 5 in very easily without anyone having to sit on the bed. Here's a video of the room:

We were on Regal in October and never had a wait of more than 10 minutes for Anytime dining. There are plenty of tables for 6 so you may get seated quickly. The food on Regal is quite good and I felt like the crew really worked together very well so there was not a lot of waiting anywhere on the ship. Although my cruise was sold out, the ship never felt full. It was just an overall great experience! Hope it will be the same for your and your family.

For the older lady have you thought about giving her some casino credit for her to play slots? If she is physically able she might also enjoy a thermal suite pass. You could also put together a gift basket for her with cruise related items.

Being a group needing a table for 6 worked out great for us on the Royal Princess (sister ship to the Regal) last fall. We never made a reservation and usually showed up around 6:00 or 6:15. If there wasn't a table for 6 in the anytime dining room the head waiter took us to the traditional dining room that would change over to anytime at 7:30. Since the first seating had started at 5:30 if a table was still empty (and there were always a handful) it was fair game. We never had to wait.

We were a party of eight on the Regal for 11 days, five adults and three under six grandchildren.

We had anytime dining and had the same table in the Concerto dining room and we ate between 5:30 and 5:45 PM

The wait staff had the shrimp cocktail ready for all of us when we arrived at the table.

They also had the freshly baked Challah, lox, sliced tomato and onion for us.

This sometimes hard to please 2 1/2 year old was always happy at the dinner table.

We had two mini suites and an inside cabin

My advice is to reserve the same table for your party and use the same wait staff for every dinner.

If you don't mind being high up and forward there are a few minisuites on Royal and Regal that seat 5 on the balcony. They can become windy while underway. They are M6 minisuites.

I have one booked in June and plan to do a full review on CC. I believe they are M107 M108 and L107 L108. There was a question as to doors being locked when sailing, but a few cruisers have said that is not true.
