How do you secure your door decorations on the sunshine? The video's I've seen look like the doors are "wooden". we have banners that i was going to secure with suction cup hooks but am now thinking that won't work. thoughts/ideas?

From Carnival's F.A.Q. section:

DECORATING YOUR STATEROOM DOOR AND STATEROOM

We recognize some of our guests like to decorate their staterooms and we, too, love seeing your creative decorations. However, for safety reasons, we must ask that you abide by the following guidelines for decorating your stateroom door as well as the interior of your stateroom.

In the interest of guest and crew safety, the following stateroom decoration policies will be instituted and strictly enforced:

  • Decorations may consist only of fire retardant materials. Please note that items sprayed with fire retardant spray are not acceptable
  • Decorations may only be placed on the stateroom door and not the surrounding frame, walls or railings
  • You may use magnets or Command Strips but no adhesives such as tape or glue.
  • Over-the-door hanging organizers must hang inside the stateroom, must also be of fire retardant material and cannot damage the door
  • No decorations of any kind are allowed on balconies
  • No decorations or items may be placed over light fittings or fixtures. This may restrict the airflow and cause the item to ignite
  • No string lights of any kind are allowed

How would we determine if something is "fire retardant"? Paper burns pretty easily, and so does thin plastic. Maybe a thick plastic sign, or something made out of aluminum foil?
I would think a lot of the packaging that some of this stuff comes in would specify fire retardant. A lot of party decorations nowadays are made of a thin metallic foil material. Surely those are fire retardant.

We use Command Strips to hang the banner on our door. We actually put the Command Strips on the inside of the door with a string going over/under the door to the banner. That makes it so people can't steal it. (Without a good amount of work)

Shindigz uses a poly-vinyl that's flame retardant. Not sure about what other places use.

Dang, that's like some booby-trap kind of stuff right there. :D Tie a little bell to the string inside the door. That way if anyone cuts it while you're in your room... *ding ding* Seriously though, that's a pretty good idea. I'd use some fishing line so they can't easily break it.

I guess I shouldn't tell you that the string is metal and we plug it in at night. ;p
