Thanks so much for doing this, Petra is high on my bucket list & I'm considering the fall 2020 version of this cruise, looking forward to your Petra report. Just curious, will you be going there with Celebrity, or did you book independently? Also, on the blackout nights, are you allowed to access your balcony at all?

Thanks.

PS: just watched your instagram video, nice!

We are going on a trip organised by someone on our roll call. It works out a lot cheaper that way and it’ll be a smaller group too.

On the blackout nights it’s balcony lights out and curtains closed. You are not meant to go out. We’ve noticed our stateroom attendant has actually locked the balcony door when he’s done the turn down service. It’s only a latch that secures the door shut but it would prevent someone opening it from the outside.

Decks four, five and eleven have been closed from 6pm to 6am during ‘Operation LOVE’.

I’ve fallen a little bit behind, so will try and get up to date this evening as we have a long day planned to Petra tomorrow.

The MDR menus for Saturday evening.

We ate earlier than normal yesterday and were finished just after 9pm so we wandered to the theatre to see the second show.

We had only been to one guest entertainer so far as they hadn’t really appealed to us. The performer was Shaun Perry from the UK. He’s not someone we’ve seen on a ship before.

I was surprised to see the theatre was packed. We struggled to find a couple of seats together and ended up going upstairs. Even then we were lucky to find somewhere so we could sit together.

He’s billed as a vocalist, but he also plays the guitar. He also played the piano for one song. It was an enjoyable show.

After the show last night we headed to Rendezvous Lounge where there was a Bandeoke. That’s Karaoke with a live band.

We stayed for a couple of songs before venturing to the Pool Deck as there was a ‘Full Moon Party’ poolside with one of the House Bands.

In the Oceanview Cafe at lunchtime we spotted a chocolate fountain and a good selection of cakes! [emoji54]

It would have been rude not to try something. And yes, it tastes as good as it looks. [emoji7]

The portholes in the floor of Oceanview Cafe take getting used to. We can even see our stateroom balcony from one of them.

After dinner there was more karaoke, although this time it was in Reflections. There are a few regulars now at these activities, my DW being one of them. [emoji23]

I really really hope they have they have the chocolate fountain during my forthcoming trip. Also Saturday's MDR menu looks like the best of all. Have you had an evening chic night yet and if so, did people dress up more than usual?

Thank you so much for doing this during your holiday - I'm finding it really interesting.

Saturday was the second of three chic nights. There have been very few men wearing tuxedos. Most guys have just worn a jacket/blazer.

There are a number of Japanese on the cruise and a few ladies have worn a kimono.

I would guess the heat, coupled with the travelling involved to get to the cruise, has been a factor in people’s decisions.

I already saw that one, was just curious to see another one. ;););)

If you download the Celebrity app (new and improved), you can choose your sail date (some are up) or our current one and look at all the menus. I’ve only noticed one day where they had the lunch menu on the wrong day, otherwise it has been reliable.

If you look at the current cruise it should be different each day. The MDR menu on the app have had the entrees correct each day, apart from one day there was no evening menu listed at all. The desserts have been wrong one day, with the app repeating the previous day.

So time to catch up with the past few days.

Petra on Monday was a LONG day! We were a private tour organised by someone on our roll call and were off the ship and away from the port just after 10am. I hate to think how long it would have taken to load the many coaches lined up on the dock for the ship’s shore excursions.

It was just over 2 hours to get to Petra. We stopped briefly on the way at a vantage point so we could take photos, use the toilet and have a quick look around a shop.

We managed to get our mandatory fridge magnets. We didn’t have any Jordanian money but the shop said they accepted USD and we were happy to pay 1 USD for a fridge magnet, so everyone was a winner.

We arrived at Petra around 12.20pm and were taken to meet our guide who would walk us through the Main Trail and As Siq to get to the Treasury.

From the Treasury we walked a bit further to the main theatre.

The guided tour ended there and we were left to make our own way back to the entrance to meet our driver so he could take us to Wadi Rum.

The walk back is tiring! It’s up hill on uneven ground. We didn’t rush and it took just under an hour from the Treasury. The heat doesn’t help either. You can pay to use a horse and cart if you want. I think it said it was 20JD one way. There are also horses available from As Siq to the entrance but I don’t know what they cost.

We left Petra at around 3.15pm. In hindsight we could have been given another 30 minutes there as we got back to the ship with plenty of time to spare later on.

As part of the private tour we were given bottled water in the mini van and a packed lunch. It was a light lunch and we didn’t have any real opportunity to get anything ourselves during the day. We were hungry by the time we got back to the ship.

After Petra we headed to Wadi Rum where we did a desert tour.

We left Wadi Rum just after 7pm and were back on the ship by 8pm. The all aboard time was 9.30pm.

Tuesday evening saw a performance from the Guest Choir in the Grand Foyer. The choir performed two songs and the atrium area on decks 3, 4 and 5 were really busy with people watching.

As the evening progressed it was Silent Disco time again on deck 4 near the Martini Bar.

I’ve uploaded a couple of videos from the Silent Disco on to my Instagram page.
