Did they offer you an upgrade or the chance to bid on an upgrade? The bid doesn't guarantee you will get the upgrade.

An upgrade or an upsell? The ship will be full by July. Moving passengers up by upsells frees up less expensive cabins that will sell out the sailing faster.

There's zero chance of a free upgrade. They use the bidding system that fills vacant higher category cabins with paid upgrades. Even before they instituted the bidding system vacant higher category cabins were filled through upsells, not free upgrades.

NCL in July to Bermuda. The ship will be full. If you can upgrade to the Haven, do it! Last year my son and his wife sailed on the Breakaway and were lucky to get a suite in the Haven. They bid $1000 more and were previously in a Jr. Suite.

 

Based on their opinion, it was well worth it. We also went on the Breakaway in August, we were in the Haven and were also glad we did. The Escape is very similar to the Haven. If you can afford it- go for it!
