Annabanana1234 Posted June 10, 2018 #777 Share Posted June 10, 2018 *** Pro tip #743 Bring a bowl from the buffet to the Blue Iguana, and construct a burrito bowl. Mexican eggs, sausage, those crunchy potato things, tomatoes, and onions... Mmmmmm... Sent from my Space Phone 9169... This is awesome! I try low carb if possible, great idea! Ship2Shore41 Posted June 11, 2018 #778 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Sid, this was just an awesome ride! I can't believe I read through 39 pages, but I felt compelled to do so through your funny, satirical, food pOrn and Tequila adventure. And I hate Tequila (Whiskey or Bourbon guy), but as soooo many have stated you did a great job of keeping us wanted to know what you were eating or drinking next. Great Job and I will also be one of those that will continue to see your adventures going forward.
AXiDMonica Posted June 11, 2018 #779 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Hi Sid! I have just gone through the 40 pages and I have felt like I was right there with you. In fact, I may be in need of a Zantac after just *looking* at all that tequila! LOL... Thanks for sharing your journey with us! December is right around the corner! ;)
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 11, 2018 Author #780 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Thank you both so much for your complements... I'm in full on post-cruise-depression right now. I really need the next 6 months to go by REAL FAST... That, or win the lottery, quit my job, and cruise "Full-Time"... Yea, that's the ticket... Sid, this was just an awesome ride! Just Jo Posted June 19, 2018 #781 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Hi Sid! I'm late to the party but what fun!! I think you've convinced me to try Carnival for the restaurants and Alchemy Bar. Btw, at Chef's Table did you all stand during the meal?? I've always enjoyed your reviews and this was my favorite so far. Nice to see you're not as camera shy these days. Looking forward to seeing your venture on Bliss. Want to join the group on the Encore Transatlantic Inaugural?? Joey
LandlockedCruiser01 Posted June 19, 2018 #782 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Hey, I was rereading a thread I started in the Solo Cruisers forum, and had a question come up: How was your experience in Customs? Were you secondary-screened? I read that solo cruisers, especially men, get targeted by Customs quite heavily. Because drugs, allegedly. You didn't mention it in your review, but did you get targeted for being solo? My own experience in Miami was mostly fine, but my experience in Port Canaveral was kind of nasty. I heard Long Beach is solo-hostile too.
Rare sid_9169 Posted June 19, 2018 Author #783 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Thanks, Jo... The Alchemy Bar basically blows away anything on NCL (other than the Haven Bar) They will go out of their way to make you anything you want, or can imagine. Bartenders on NCL will often refuse to make anything "off-menu" --- At the Chefs Table, the very first apps were served at a stand up station, before moving on to the formal table, with it's own private room right off to the side of the Galley... Rare sid_9169 Posted June 19, 2018 Author #784 Share Posted June 19, 2018 As a solo, I have never once had any trouble at customs... Maybe it's the military style haircut? Rare Saint Greg Posted June 19, 2018 #787 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Which port was it in? New Orleans. It was my first cruise. I've gone solo out of New Orleans four other times since then and haven't had a problem. They said their dog reacted to my tote bag. It was a carnival bag I got the day before at a future cruise presentation.
LandlockedCruiser01 Posted June 19, 2018 #788 Share Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) As a solo, I have never once had any trouble at customs... Maybe it's the military style haircut? My haircut is short (I use a #4 attachment on an electric hair cutter), but not military style. I guess I'll find out the hard way on my next cruise. For now, my experiences had been 50/50. New Orleans. It was my first cruise. I've gone solo out of New Orleans four other times since then and haven't had a problem. They said their dog reacted to my tote bag. It was a carnival bag I got the day before at a future cruise presentation. Hmm... interesting. It's rare for a man to cruise alone, so when they saw you, they probably thought "whiskey-tango-foxtrot". But when you had more cruises from the same port under your belt, they just thought: "oh, him again", and left you alone. I suppose the bright colors on the tote bag triggered the dog. Carnival's colors are red and blue, and dogs are red-green colorblind. So maybe the whale tail logo reminded the dog of cats. :) Or maybe they lied to you, and actually targeted you for being solo; I can't think of a single item inside a "future cruise" bag that would smell like drugs. After that I did have them ask me why I was traveling alone once or twice. Now they just don't even ask.
katibug Posted June 19, 2018 #790 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Back on the 150 bus, heading to the airport... I have walked around 12-15 miles here in South Beach today. My feet are tired, and it's pretty hot here as well... I started out at South point park where I got off the bus. That's the last piece of land you see as you exit the channel in Miami. From there walked North, past the art deco hotels. And then headed West to Alton Rd to visit a couple of taco places. ***Note: I went to 3 taco places... Afterwards, headed back East towards Collins Ave. (Vanilla Ice would refer to it as "A1A, beach front avenue") Walked around a bit more, and then waited for next airport bound bus. I carried with me my level 1 bug out bag. ***Note: level 1 means it had everything of value that I brought with me on vacation. Cash, credit cards, passport, medication, hat and sunglasses, three bottles of water from the ship. ***Note 2: my suitcase that I stored at the airport is full of dirty clothes, and little more of any real value. ***Note 3: even when my clothes are clean, they are of little to no value.
