Carnival needs to make this right

To all the people claiming Casinos are for sucker, that is completely untrue. Sure if you try to break the house you're destined to go broke but if you know what you're doing then that's a different story. I personally only play table games, and I was on a Carnival cruise earlier this month and won over $600 in Blackjack and it made it back home. I literally came home with almost the exact money I left with, and that's after shopping and splurging a little.

BTW I too agree with the OP, there's no way in hell he should of walked away with nothing. What's the point of playing machines if you got to not only hope you win but hope the machine doesn't screw up also. That's a very silly rule that needs to have exceptions

So I’m just off the Valor today. On our only port day, a man played one of those crazy no one wins machines in the casino where you line up the object and have to get it in the hole to get the cash to drop. Around 11:45am, on his third dollar, this guy wins!! $5000!!! Since this was a machine right next to the smoking section of the bar, there were plenty of people around who witnessed it. Bells, whistles, lights, sirens!! But no cash dropped. The display screen on the machine read “malfunction”. Ok no worries. Since the casino was officially closed, there

Was no casino manager around. The bartender called a manager who took 3 hours to show. Of course this guy waited. And when the manager finally came, no go. He said too bad. Not getting your money. Machine malfunction. Needless to say several other managers were called as was security. Hours go by. No money for the win, no viewing of the security camera which was just a few feet from the game...not even a refund for the $3 he played. People around the ship were mortified. The player and others the knew about the situation would have been satisfied with SOMETHING. Anything. Free steakhouse dinner??!! Comped room??! Instead a whole lot of passengers left feeling Carnival cheated and scammed their passengers.

I can see one person feeling cheated but that would be it. It's life, someone needs to get over it.

I actually saw him this morning and asked. Nothing was done and he asked several times to view the security camera. After he went to the guest services desk and asked to speak to someone higher than casino managers...and he was NEVER belligerent or even raised his voice that was witnessed by other guests, he was told that if he didn’t drop it he would be removed from the cruise. Maybe after the fact when he gets home, something will happen....NOT.

He can "win" a couple of hundred dollars by pulling his tips. ;)

Why is it that no one wants to admit they lose money in the casino. Everyone is a winner. It’s amazing these casinos don’t go broke with all the winning going on

Did you not read the OP? That person lost $5k. Covers the $600 won by someone else pretty well.

Funny you only chose to quote a small portion of my post instead of the entire post, if you did you would see I said that people try to break the house and end up breaking themselves. They account for the majority of the Casino income, I am a minority. I strike fast and walk away.

The OP posted the issue here because that is what this site is for; to express your opinion about things that occur or happen or are about a cruise incident. The OP didn't expect any of you genius's to solve the issue but merely make you aware. People post all the time who are "strangers" to others here. The OP stated it was their opinion that Carnival should make it right. Others said that malfunctions void the pay out. Apparently that is correct but why be so harsh on the OP?

Geez; lighten up......WE all have opinions and write about them on this site.

Yes! Geez. For people who cruise, some on here are really grouchy, lol.

As for the guy who "won", thats an awful position to be in. I agree that Carnival could have made at least a small gesture to quell any bad feelings.

And that is why I never play in casinos. Their slot/electronic games are rigged. For all the OP knows, the "malfunction" could have been rigged as well. I'd maybe do a table game or two, but the buy-ins are too pricey.

Rigged? it's not an election. The slots are "programmed" to pay out a certain percentage of $1.00. Downtown Vegas pays higher than the strip. The ships probably have a smaller payout then even uptown Vegas. As far as "buy ins" what games have a buy in? You can play most any table game for $5-6. BTW, the malfunction 100% was not rigged. Carnival does not need to rip off people, more than normal:D:D:D:D

No, he LOST whatever he put into the machine, which was what.... $3!

The machine "malfunctioned", so he didn't WIN $5000.

You try telling the guy he didn't "lose" the $5k he should have won.

I won $2500 on the casino vault (key through the hole) game a few years ago. When the money dropped it missed the chute and landed up in the machine. Took about 20 minutes to have the casino manager come to review the computer logs, and i assume review security footage, before opening up the machine to retrieve the money. No indication of any malfunction.

As a computer nerd, you should know the importance of syntax. The only thing he truly lost was what he put into it.

Another reason I hate gambling. Read some the of the violent reactions people have had in this thread about something that doesn't even pertain to them.

actually they pay out a large percentage of what they take in. I dont know cruises in particular but Vegas has most slots giving back 95% , but that is still a lot of money to the casino.

Im guessing that cruises are probably in the neighborhood of 90%. they payoff 90 cents of every dollar (on average of course)

Nevada and other state regulated slots mandate a certain payback percentage. Native American casino's are all over the place on payback, and I doubt cruise ship casino payback is regulated at all. They will pay back just enough to keep people coming back, but if you expect as good of odds as you would get in Vegas you will be disappointed.

Yes, I know what he lost, You know what he lost. Again, go try telling Him what he lost because I can tell you, he's not going to give a damn about syntax.

I don't gamble either but not because of other's reactions. I just hate gambling with something I worked so hard for.

Just stop thinking of it as gambling and think of it as entertainment. If I go to a football game, I'll come home four hours later with $300 less money. If I play $10 blackjack for four hours I might come home with $300 less money, but maybe not. It's just another form of entertainment.

If you watch YouTube videos, those little key games are very fixed. The key frequently moves from where the player stops it. So with that set up and the "malfunction" I would never play one of those.

Now you tell me! Carnival got $50 out of me on this the last cruise, no wonder I wasn't gaining any ground trying nail it. Perhaps if I had unloaded 5K, they could have covered the Valor win...
