Using drink package in Dining Room?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am assuming that I can use my deluxe drink package during my meals in the dining room on Anthem but I have also read that it is harder to get the wait staff to get you drinks in a timely manner because they are doing double duty as bar servers and regular wait staff.

If this is true... is it actually easier to just walk out of the dining room to the nearest bar location and get my own drink as necessary?

It really would not bother me to do this and may make it easier on the wait staff who I know are worked very hard already.

Is there a bar on Anthem close to the traditional dining rooms... The Grande or Chic?

Yes, you can use your drink package in the dining room. Sometimes it is difficult to get served in the dining room anymore. I suggest cash tips to help the service.

Grande and Chic are on Deck 3. The closest bar is the Casino Bar.

One deck up is Boleros.

Yes, you will wait awhile for your drinks in the MDR. Walk into the MDR with a full drink. Order your next drink when the waiters take the drink orders. By the time you're finished with the drink you walked in with they will be bringing you the one you ordered. One of our disappointments with RCI is that they got rid of the bar waiter in the MDR. Puts so much more work on the waiters and asst. waiters and slows up the service.

I think wait time will vary from ship to ship. On Indy in December the drinks came fast and often. Had the opportunity to talk to one of the MDR managers and was told they recently added bartenders so the AW didn't have to make the drinks themselves, they just had to drop off the order and come back and pick them up.

It varies widely based on the staff to passenger ratio on any given night. Although we have found that if you order a drink or a bottle of wine from your server on the first night and tip a few dollars, they will almost always remember that the rest of the nights and come to you rather quickly to get your drink order. That has been our experience at least.

I've generally left to get another drink during dinner in the MDR. On one recent cruise I did that (had not ordered one at the table) and the lead waiter was hurt that I had done that. She was concerned that she had not met my expectations. After that, I ordered through her and she asked if I wanted the same thing every night ... that earned a WOW from me.
