annieuk Posted June 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2018 We shall be in Mykonos for a day at the beginning of October. Can anyone tell me how easy it is to walk into the town from the port? I have some problems walking too far - not too bad if I can stop and sit occasionally - good reason to stop for a drink or coffee every so often. If it's a long uphill walk into the town that could be a problem. I'd be grateful if people could let me know of their experiences. There are only a few ship's tours on offer and none really suitable.
Rare SpainAlien Posted June 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2018 Very easy, the tender drops you right on the edge of the town. It's a bit further to walk up to the windmills though Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Rare Cruise Junky Posted June 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2018 It's going to depend on if you dock or tender. Dock, no..take the shuttle. Tender, you'll be tendered right into town.
CaribbeanBound Posted June 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2018 We docked and got off the ship at 7:30 am and took the first free shuttle bus to town (about 8 minutes). Walking takes about 30 minutes, but I'd advise against it. There is no sidewalk or shade once you exit the port and the road doesn't look safe due to the turns, hills, and traffic. Another option is to take a Sea Bus Water Taxi for €2 from the port directly into the heart of town. wheezedr Posted June 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 15, 2018 Really depends on dock or tender. Tender will put you right into town. From the dock you would do best to shuttle. On our cruise we were scheduled to dock and the day before a announcement was made that we would tender instead. Still able to do everything but just had to alter our timing. Rare John Bull Posted June 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 15, 2018 We were scheduled to berth, but instead moored off the town & were tendered in. It's one of the few ports (Dubrovnik is another) where tendering is actually better than berthing - you're dropped in the attractive little harbour in town. CaribbeanBound Posted June 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2018 It's really a win-win either way in Mykonos.
annieuk Posted June 22, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted June 22, 2018 Thank you everyone. It sounds promising either way, but as has been said, maybe a port where tendering is actually better!
illiniwahoo Posted June 27, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 27, 2018 We have walked it. Its further than it looks. 30 mins is accurate, and we walk at a decent pace. Once you are out of town, there's no really good places to sit down to rest. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app
gchen Posted July 3, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 3, 2018 Our ship docked and then we took the free shuttle into town. It’s easy to walk around unless you want to go up the steep alleys but there’s plenty to see if you don’t. We saw other ships that were tendered and they were dropped off right in town. Cat4158 Posted August 20, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Hi. Is the free shuttle provided by the port or through your cruise company?
gchen Posted August 20, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Hi. Is the free shuttle provided by the port or through your cruise company? I believe it was provided by the cruise company. I remember the sign on bus for Celebrity.
CaribbeanBound Posted August 22, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 22, 2018 The shuttle in Mykonos was indeed provided for free by Celebrity Cruises.
