Anita Latte Posted July 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2018 I wonder how this might impact excursions across the lake? Would this flood that sandbar by Nugget Falls? https://weather.com/news/news/2018-07-19-alaska-mendenhall-glacier-flooding-juneau
new_cruiser Posted July 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 19, 2018 Well, the sandbar isn't much above the usual water level, so if the lake rises 12 feet, it would be flooded. Much of the trail out to it would be covered too. I'm not sure how high the parking lot is. The Visitor Center is elevated - you have to go up a flight of stairs from the parking lot. The Trail of Time starts from it and goes up a bit. That has good views of the glacier & is a very pleasant trail. wolfie11 Posted July 19, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 19, 2018 The flood warning is for the river, not the lake. Lake levels may be somewhat impacted but most of the extra water goes into the river. The area around Skater’s Cabin and the West Glacier trail may be affected...
