JBCall Posted August 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2018 We are on a red-eye flight and will be getting into San Juan at 5:00a on a Saturday. How long does it typically take to get bags, etc. We were thinking to go and grab an early breakfast prior to going to the port but are concerned very little may be open at that time. Any suggestions for a place to grab an early breakfast? Any other ideas as to what we can do in the early morning? Are there places to store luggage at that time of day? Thanks. addicted to crusing Posted August 17, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2018 It does not take but a few min to get your bags. We always go into old San Juan to eat at La Mallorca. It’s a small locals place and you must try It!!! Been doing this cruise 12 years straight. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Generally what is a good time to get to the pier for boarding (Summit). Since the Summit does not board on the Old San Juan pier (it does so at the Pan American pier across the bay) you would eventually need a taxi to get to the ship so you have two options: Finish breakfast and head to the ship and wait out until you can drop your bags and/or check in, get back off the and hop on a taxi back to OSJ and grab a taxi back to the ship after exploring the city. Or, you can head to Barrachina restaurant. They open at 11am and they hold your bags safely so you can explore around. You can grab them once you're done, catch a taxi half a block away and head straight to the ship. Once in OSJ you will wan to explore at least one of the two forts, walk around Paseo de la Princesa at the base of the city walls, and do some shopping before heading to the ship. For the last few times we arrived in San Juan, you can drop of your bags at Barrachina before the restaurant opens. We've dropped bags as early as 9am. Also do we need to make reservation before hand?

Also do we need to make reservation before hand? 104 Calle Fortaleza (probably best to Google it, you can see it on a map relative to your port location) Which is not an easy walk, even from the San Juan Pier side. We always take a taxi from the PanAm pier. I can't recall the cost- even though we just used it in July. But no reservations are needed- just show up. edit: at the bottom of their page http://www.barrachina.com/ there's a small description of the service- it's free, but there is a tip jar. Mogo0124 Posted August 24, 2018 #16 Share Posted August 24, 2018 You're staying at Hotel Milano before your cruise - I hope you will be there early enough to eat at their rooftop restaurant or at least have a drink. Excellent mofongo and the coconut mojito is to die for!!! Ask for hot sauce with the mofongo too - makes it even better.
