Ripped jeans at dinner?

Good argument, thank you for your coherency. I think a closer analogy would be if the maitre D in Le Bistro allowed it on one night, and the maitre D in Cagneys disallowed it the next, you couldn't say "but they allowed it last night in Le Bistro".

Correct.

Even if the maitre D allowed it on Tuesday, the same maitre D could refuse the exact same jeans on Thursday. It's a risk that the wearer would have to be willing to accept.

Either way it's proving, my point: The rule is as written and not what it's the mind of the person at the door. The person at the door may choose to ignore the rule, but that doesn't change the rule. If the rule said "...or with approval of the host", that would be different, but that is not what the rule says.

The problem with the website's written code is that because it is (intentionally?) vague and grammatically flawed, someone could punch a hole (pun) in it and find a way for their jeans to be allowed. The person at the door could still refuse jeans that were with holes but were not overly faded. (...jeans that are overly faded with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted...). A few changes like commas or changing "and" to "or" would make a difference in the posted code but the maitre D still has the final word.

Entertaining yet embarrassing at the same time. It's like little kids pulling each others pigtails on the playground.

Sorry to break it to you but it is no longer politically correct to offend pigs, there are some exceptions if they can find a safe zone near by
