ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #176 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Neither of use remember the name of this dessert. Here is a transcript of our discussion: Me: "How was this?" Her: give me thumbs down. Me: "Do you remember what it's called?" Her: ".........Cold Apple Pastry C%@p?..........with raisins?" Guess that sums it up. The was on the second night in the MDR. ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #177 Share Posted October 29, 2018 The other dessert she picked out was the Sugar Free Carrot Cake. Her thoughts: "Not great but not terrible. It would be a good choice for anyone that needs a sugar free option."
ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #178 Share Posted October 29, 2018 The next morning in the MDR she ordered the Chocolate Pancakes. She was excited for this. She took a bite and said "It's chocolate cake batter that's missing sugar." She didn't like them. I passed on tasting them. Speaking of pancakes- if you have a future cruise out of Long Beach and want a breakfast recommendation, try a restaurant called The Breakfast Bar. It's pretty close to the port. They make Lemon Pancakes that are unreal- so good. Their Bloody Mary is incredible as well.

Would love to hear your tips. I belive we will be booking Omni Royal in Garden District, if that makes a difference. You are in for quite a treat- New Orleans is my favorite food destination. There is so much amazing food- I could create an entire new thread of food pictures in New Orleans. So I don't detour too much, here is a short list of some of my favorites. By no means is the the only good food in NOLA, you will certainly find something amazing in many, many places. Stanley- corner of Jackson Square is our favorite breakfast place. My wife loves the Bananas Foster French Toast and I love either the Eggs Stanley or Breaux Bridge Benedict. Drago's- Located by the Harrahs Casino. I love their charbroiled Oysters. Lorettas- counter in the French Market and has a restaurant just north of the Quarter. Her Praline Beignets and Crab Beignets are some of the best things I've ever eaten. I think she only serves the Crab ones in the restaurant. Parkway Tavern & Bakery- a few miles north of the quarter. I love their surf n turf Po Boy. K-Pauls- Anything here. Mr. B's- BBQ Shrimp. It's messy but delicious. Napoleon House- Muffuletta and a Pimm's Cup to drink. Carousel Bar- your favorite cocktail while sitting around a rotating bar. Cochon- Roasted Oysters were incredible. Anything here. Peche- Anything seafood here. GW Fins- Scalibut. Mulate's- Fun Cajun place. Again- there are so many amazing places and I just scratched the surface. Enjoy- its an amazing city with amazing culture, amazing architecture, amazing history, amazing food, and amazing people.

I didn't realize there was one in the buffet on the Pearl until our last night and it was already closed for the evening. I really enjoy the dessert crepes, think I would prefer that to a lot of MDR desserts. I was lucky enough to discover the made to order crepes on my first cruise on the Getaway. the Nutella crepes topped with the whipped topping they have at the crepe station is my crack- I can’t lay off of it!
jlkb Posted October 29, 2018 #181 Share Posted October 29, 2018 I don't know about everyone else, but I am enjoying this thread so much that I keep refreshing every few minutes hoping to see new posts from you! LOL I have been dieting since February and have lost 80 pounds, so this cruise will be my reward for a long journey completed. We are even doing a foodie tour in Cozumel in addition to all the good food I am looking forward to eating on the ship. 1

I'm glad you enjoy this!! I'm probably done with food pics for this evening. I'll get some more up tomorrow for sure. After my wife's food pics, I plan on putting up some pics of drinks as well. I love Cozumel- enjoy that foodie tour! Love to hear about it after you return.

I lived in New Orleans for a few years. You're right, Parkway Tavern & Bakery are the best po-boys in the city. I would make one addition to your list, especially if the OP is staying in the Garden District. Jacques-Imo's Cafe on Maple St. It is an experience. You can take the St. Charles Ave. streetcar line all the way uptown, until where it curves onto Carrollton, and get off at Maple. Order the shrimp and alligator sausage cheesecake.

We are on the Epic for a TA next April so will have lots of time to try the various restaurants. We plan to go mostly with the free dining venues, so I am loving your reviews of the MDR. One question, if you order cappuccino in the MDR with dessert is there a charge? We will have the UBP. Thanks again. Yes. Specialty coffee is not included in the UBP. Vacation is no excuse 🙂

ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #189 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Tiramisu- MDR dessert. Forgot which night. I did not try it- I usually like Tiramisu. That night just wasn't feeling it. She thought it was awesome.
ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #190 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Chicken Cordon Bleu MDR night 4 The menu said it came with a Dijon Parmesan Cream Sauce, German Potato Salad, and Assorted Vegetables. She thought it was delicious. I tried it and liked it as well. I had plate envy. My entree at that moment was the Mediterranean Sirloin Beef Brochette that I did not care for.
ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #191 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Night 4 MDR Dessert. Warm Bread Pudding with Caramel Whiskey Sauce and Apple Chip. ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #193 Share Posted October 29, 2018 Jost Van Dyke- White Bay Beach. This is the breakfast sandwich I ordered from Perfect Pineapple. Well.....half the sandwich. It was $10 but made fresh and hit the spot. We were starving and the bar kitchens didn't open till 11 am. If you have the early Rebel Yell to Jost and need a sandwich- ask them to point you to Perfect Pineapple. You can see it from Soggy but have to walk along the access road to get to it. It's not on the beach.
ludicrous_speed Posted October 29, 2018 Author #194 Share Posted October 29, 2018 MDR Night Five Ranchero Beef Taco Cups (served with Guacamole and Pico de Gallo per the menu). When my wife read the title out loud she said "oooh.....someone on NCL has been watching Tasty! videos." uh............cups?..............thats 3 chips with a topping. The cilantro dwarfs it like a tree branch. My wife said they need to change the name to "1/16 order of nachos" 1

SenatorsFan Posted October 30, 2018 #197 Share Posted October 30, 2018 I'm loving this thread! We were on this cruise, too, and had some of the same dishes. I agree with your wife, that pork on the mashed sweet potatoes was awesome. We were a little disappointed in our dinner at Cagney's also. Our truffle fries were good, but my DH felt the steak was not as good as it's been in the past. And I thought Million Dollar Quartet was the best show I've ever seen on a cruise ship. Funny how so many people walked out early and missed the last part. Heather

Shellbelle28 Posted October 30, 2018 #199 Share Posted October 30, 2018 Speaking of tiny. Cagney's has a starter called "Beef Short Rib Confit." It's a small bit of beef, a smear of hummus and red bell pepper spread and some little flatbreads. But OMG, it's wonderful. I had it every time we ate at Cagney's. The flavors were amazing together. It looked almost like a plate AFTER someone was done eating it was so small, but surprisingly satisfying. Sometimes small is okay, but that nacho hing looks sad.
