I’m wondering if the ship will even be aloud to dock. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/30/world/europe/venice-floods-italy.html Edited October 30, 2018 by RubyLee
chrysalis Posted October 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2018 The bridge cam shows her docked there, so I guess she was allowed... 1

Astro Flyer Posted October 30, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 30, 2018 A few years ago the acqua alta condition caused flooding like that in St. Mark’s Square & we had to walk on those platforms. However the flooding only affected that area & no place else including the port area located near the train station on the west end of Venice. So passengers boarding the ship should not be affected by the flooding in St. Mark’s Square.

We have been there twice when St Marks was inundated with flooding. During our experience it had no effect on the port/terminal/dock area.

This is the worst flooding they've had in a decade so not the usual fall amount.

They say that every year. It was pretty bad when we were there. Looked similar to the video shown of the current conditions in St Marks Square. Cruise Junky Posted October 30, 2018 #8 Share Posted October 30, 2018 Showing a picture shows nothing of the devastation to the city. When 75% of the city is underwater it is bound to have affected passengers boarding today.
1emerald1 Posted October 30, 2018 #9 Share Posted October 30, 2018 I just looked at a couple of youtube live streams of Venice. It is not raining at the moment and people are out and about, walking and dining at the cafes.
Cruise Junky Posted October 30, 2018 #10 Share Posted October 30, 2018 Yes, there was news of improvement today. It can recede sometimes as quick as it comes in.
RubyLee Posted October 30, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted October 30, 2018 My group is acheduled to board the Pacific Princess 1 year from today. While I’m hoping that nothing like this latestflood event will happen then it’s worth considering a hotel that would be out of the potential flood area. Not sure I could lift my luggage up to my shoulder while wading through water. Does anyone have any recommendations? I ‘m wondering if the hotels near Piazzale Roma are out of the flooded area. Stayed at the Al Ponte Mocenigo several years ago. Good location; took a water taxi to it from the Airport. Located so you do not have to drag your luggage over bridges. There is a back entrance from the boat dock. St. Marks was flooded; however, we were able to get a water taxi to the Ship.

DrivesLikeMario Posted October 30, 2018 #14 Share Posted October 30, 2018 We were there just a few weeks ago and the Bora winds had arrived early. From what we were told, they're usually predictable and timely. Not this year. They say this is what causes the flooding so hopefully, it won't happen next year at this time RubyLee.
