From just down the board, and very easily found on the FAQ page of the HAL website.

Can not find the Faqs on HALs web site for this issue .

Would some one who knows which HAL ships ban smoking in their casinos  advise us here . TIA

Here’s the HAL FAQ link ...

https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/faq.html

It appears that Oosterdam & Noordam are both 100% smoke-free casinos for cruise duration. Haven’t sailed on either yet so can not personally confirm.

To better align with guest wishes and health concerns, Holland America Line will implement a new smoking policy beginning in January 2017. Please see below for details.

Smoking Policy beginning January 2017:

Effective with the first sailings for all ships beginning in January 2017, the following smoking policy is in effect:

For the comfort of all of our guests, all staterooms (cabins), showrooms and most other indoor areas are designated non-smoking. No smoking of any kind will be permitted on any stateroom verandah.

The designated smoking areas for all ships are as follows unless otherwise noted:

  • Sea View (Retreat) Bar/Pool on starboard side only. On PrinsendamKoningsdam, and Nieuw Statendam, smoking is allowed on the port side only
  • Sun Bar on Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam
  • Sports Deck forward and aft of Crow's Nest on starboard side on MaasdamVeendamVolendamZaandamRotterdam and Amsterdam
  • Oak Room on Noordam only, including cigar and pipe smoking
  • Designated areas for active slot players in Casinos*. Oosterdam and Eurodam casinos are completely non-smoking. Noordam Casino is completely non-smoking, with the exception of two nights per cruise.

Cigar and pipe smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the ship; it is only permitted on the outside decks where smokingis otherwise allowed.

Electronic cigarettes are permitted in staterooms and suites but not on verandahs or in other public areas of the ship other than designated smoking areas.

Any guest who smokes inside staterooms or on verandahs in violation of our policy will be charged a US$250 cleaning fee per day of violation and will risk being removed from the ship for repeated violations.

Holland America Line reserves the right at any time to modify the smoking policy onboard or alter the locations where smoking is permissible.

Sadly, Koningsdam still allowed smoking in their casino when we sailed in 2017. Perhaps someone who has sailed since the drydock can give you a positive update. Fingers crossed. We are sailing on the Eurodam in a month. It is the sister ship to the Nieuw Amsterdam, which has a 100% non-smoking casino. We were on NA a few months back.

Looks like you're on the same Eurodam cruise as us to Mexico. Same general layout as the Nieuw Amsterdam. Because of the new open layout of the casino next to the Billboard Onboard performance area, the casino is 100% smoke-free!  See you there!

Come over to the Roll Call & join our Meet & Greet list . We will be meeting in Billboard on the first Sea Day  .Right now we have well over 30 people signed up for the Meet & Greet :classic_biggrin:

Thanks for the Casino info .I did find out that Eurodam is a totally non smoking Casino  . However ,both Koningsdam &  Rotterdam ;which we will be on next year allow smoking in the casino . With all the  attitude against smoking ,HAL should side with the non smoking  in their casinos .Celebrity has totally non smoking casinos:classic_rolleyes:

RE. casino smoking:  On Maasdam in Oct. there were several nights that were advertised as "No smoking nights" in the casino.  This is totally useless for us non-smokers since the rugs, curtains, etc.  are saturated with the smoke and just not allowing it for the night will not delete the smoke smell.  Just being in the "Mix" next to it was nauseating at times.

Yes & that is the problem with smoking any where except outdoors  . Not only does the soft goods absorb the  stench of the cigarette odors ;but  every thing yellows over time 😡

Casino smoking on Koningsdam is one of the few negatives I have with the ship, however, with the dry dock in December, that will hopefully change.  (please, please, please!)

The Zuiderdam casino is now non-smoking, I assume after her drydock early this year.  It was nice (no smoke), but I did notice fewer players than in the past.

On our recent Nieuw Amsterdam cruise (100% non-smoking casino), the casino was packed, literally standing room only, toward the end of the cruise. HAL really needs to update their website to accurately list all current non-smoking casinos and PROMOTE them! Their change to smoke-free has been painfully slow, and lack of promotion is a huge P.R. miss, in my opinion. Some people still think smoking is allowed on balconies, and are avoiding booking HAL because of that mis-information.

We agree that it is a huge PR miss by HAL:classic_sad: . Celebrity is now well known for total non smoking except certain outside areas .Certainly there is NO smoking in any inside areas :classic_biggrin:
