above sea level cruiser Posted January 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2006 ...............first place in the correct answer competition. (of course!!) Does anyone know what the one foot square, or sometimes round, pieces of plywood that are put on the mooring ropes up near the ship when they dock are for? Some ships have them that fit on two ropes at once, so I used to think that they kept the ropes apart so they wouldn't tangle. Now I've seen single plywood plates put on each of the ropes. I'm thinking they are to keep small rodents or lizards from climbing up the ropes and getting on instead of using their seepass like everyone else. Thanks in advance,
rokcop Posted January 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2006 The rings are to keep the wharf rats from climbing the ropes to enter the ship!! I WIN

Dotsie Posted January 14, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Rat guards are placed over the mooring lines of the ship when it is pier side to prevent vermin from coming aboard. Dotsie

above sea level cruiser Posted January 14, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Orange Rat Guards:D 2010? 4 years of trivia? I'm glad you said trivia and not trivial. You have no idea how hard I have to think of things to say, in order to quickly pass the time till 2010. Just amagine the flaming you would get from all the people on these boards if you were being mean to me!! Orange is incorrect. White is the colour we were looking for. Better luck next time. OK who wants to play...."the first person to book this guy a cruise so that he will stop the trivial trivia game because his cruise is not till 2010 wins!!!!?" - any rich people with money to burn may start the bidding. Going once, twice, OK that's enough, I'm done.

bobbie0253 Posted January 15, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2006 2010? At least you have one BOOKED! LOL Like they even book that far out.... HEHE But.... I like your thinking. I look forward to your silly posts! Bobbie
Coralc Posted January 15, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I love tree squirrels. That's just rude. You are, of course entitled to your opinion. Ground squirrels are pests and we kill them, but tree squirrels...that's just wrong to dislike them. I feel very strongly about this issue.:D aslc, you're from Canada, maybe? You spell color, differently than US.
Merion_Mom Posted January 15, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Hey, Patti, if they CHEWED their way THROUGH your walls into your attic, and then chewed into the living space, I suspect that you might no longer look so fondly upon them! BTW I think the ground squirrels get a bad reputation because it's so obvious that the tree squirrels are always framing them for the horrible garbage can invasions. Seriously, How do those poor innocent ground squirrels climb up those TALL metal trash cans?? PS. Raccoons are EVIL
Merion_Mom Posted January 15, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 15, 2006 How do you feel about opossums?
Kissara22 Posted January 15, 2006 #18 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Merion Mom, A very good question indeed. I have no opinion on Opossums whatsoever. But I will say this, possums should take a page out of the chickens book and learn how to cross a road when there's no traffic. Those poor, poor possums. Merion_Mom Posted January 15, 2006 #19 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Oh, come on. They're so ugly to begin with, they don't look any worse when they become roadkill! ;)
Coralc Posted January 15, 2006 #20 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Possums are OK too! They are dumb as dirt, but not really offensive, and fun to watch.:) And it would probably be fun, uh, uh to take one on a cruise too! Just so we stay on topic
Merion_Mom Posted January 15, 2006 #21 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Good point, this staying on topic thing. :D So, if you take a possum on a cruise, do you tip the full amount for him/her/it? ;)
Coralc Posted January 15, 2006 #22 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I think the full tip amount would be appropriate, as with children, they are probably rather messy:D
Michelle! Posted January 15, 2006 #23 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Celebrity states in their policies that children under 12 only require 50% of the regular gratuity? Do you think this holds true for the critters as well?
