There was a couple who were found dead the first week of April, the wife died after a few days in the hospital from mysterious injuries. The husband was found in the sea in their rental car, again under unusual circumstances. They were from New Rochelle, NY and staying in a resort in Punta Cana; and had checked out and were on their way to the airport.

Might be a good reason to switch ports! Trouble in paradise!

On Eqionox 13-20 april and stopped in Punta Cana. Nothing there. You need to book a excursion. Either with the ship or once you get off tender, theres a company that has excursions to beach resorts. We went to a small beach resort Api Beach Bar. $15 per person including transfer and use of beach loungers. Very nice place, clean, good drinks and food.

About 3 days after that story broke it was also confirmed they died due to a single car accident.  They were driving at night, went off the cliff, she was found having crawled out of the car, he was found in the car as you said.  High speed and drinking may have also contributed to the crash.  No mysterious injuries or unusual circumstances.  If bad driving was a reason to switch ports no one would be sailing out of New York or Florida.

We stopped at Punta Cana on our Equinox cruise in November and really enjoyed it.  We did have a shipboard excursion booked and went to a private beach club which was the best day.  Great service, pretty beach, and the water was so clear and shallow until a long way out.

But there is very little at the marina where the tenders dock.  You can see that it is building up and will eventually have a lot of activities, restaurants, etc.  But right now, you need to have something planned in advance, imho.  I do also wonder about the tendering situation.  We had smooth sailing on the way in in the morning, but it was rough on the way back.  It wasn't nearly as bad as Nice, but I get why folks wouldn't like it.
