Hourly Parking in the 17th St. area

We are flying down to Ft. Lauderdale this Saturday and staying overnight at the Hilton Marina using Hilton Points.  Boarding our ship on Sunday.  We are planning to have dinner with friends who live about 45 minutes away on Saturday night and who will meet us at the the hotel.  The Hilton charges $17 for parking as long as its not overnight (that's $30).  We're talking just a few hours to catch up with old friends.

 

We, and our friends, are not familiar with this area at all.  Is there safe, on-street parking?  A nearby parking lot that costs less?  And of course, some restaurant recommendations within walking distance of the Hilton.

Honestly, just bite the bullet and pay to park.  Any parking around you will not be any cheaper or will involve a walk across a very busy highway.

 

Boatyard is very walkable and excellent.  Boatyard valet may be cheaper and yall could just meet them there for happy hour.

That area is nothing but shopping centers with tons of parking. The issue is that they have signs that warn you will be towed if you aren't actually shopping there. 

 

I'd probably just pay the $17 if you plan on staying at the hotel.  Cheaper than a tow truck.  If you were planning on meeting up at a nearby restaurant, then there is more than enough parking for them in the restaurant lots.
