fischymom Posted January 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2019 Our son (will be 21) and his fiancee (will be 19) will be getting married May 2020. They will be taking their honeymoon in June because of another family wedding the week following their wedding. Our son has cruised with us before but never traveled solo before. Wanting suggestions of where would be good but economical for them to stay while in Miami since they are flying in the day before. For ease, since they've never done this alone, they are interested in hotels that have a port shuttle or Uber/Lyft if the process would be less complicated. Thanks for suggestions. I am not having much success getting info from calling directly to hotels to check if they have shuttles. From reading posts, it looks like the airport area they should stay away from, any other suggestions welcome and appreciated!! Thanks.
JohninDC Posted January 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2019 Only Hotels out near the MIA airport offer free airport shuttles, and only a few offer port shuttles. Best bet is to stay downtown and use Uber or Lyft. Mary Brickell area is very popular and offers many local dining and nightlife options. Hampton Inn, Homewood Suites, Marriott and others. Closer to the port you'll find Intercontinental, Doubletree, Marriott and others. Some offer some rooms with a view of the port! 😎 Good luck and congratulations on the wedding. Rare Noxequifans Posted January 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2019 We stay at the Intercontinental and the bayview rooms look over the port. A taxi to the port is inexpensive and you are there in minutes.
Flymia Posted January 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2019 Forget the shuttles just have them use Uber/Lyft. A list of hotels with various prices ranges that would be good for the night before: YVE Hotel Holiday Inn Port Miami Intercontinental Hotel Miami Hampton Inn Brickell (very popular with cruisers) And pretty much anything in Downtown Miami and Brickell. Come back with a few you see and then we can tell you. You won't go wrong with any of the above, there are many other hotels in the area too. Some are more expensive others not so much. But just a few blocks makes a bit of a difference sometimes in ease of walkability and so forth. There are also hotels that call themselves Brickell or Downtown but are not in those areas. Again, forget the shuttles and don't stay near the airport.
victory2020 Posted January 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2019 Two airport hotels with free shuttle from airport & to port are La Quinta EAST & Days Inn NORTH. Both offer shuttle back to airport for $10pp.

To the OP do not make a decision based on shuttles. They can use Uber/Lyft and enjoy a stay in Downtown or Brickell. Come back with the hotels you find and we can give you better comments. No, but giving info as to economical hotels that have shuttles which were two things they were asking about.
BNBR Posted January 15, 2019 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2019 She never said they planned on going out or how late they were even getting in. One of them is too young to drink anyways. The airport hotels are great in the Blue Lagoon area. The Hilton is a very nice spot. If they planned on just grabbing food at the hotel/pools, etc. It would be a great option. JohninDC Posted January 15, 2019 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2019 Hilton Blue Lagoon is VERY different from what they will experience at La Quinta East (which might be an economical option if their flight arrives late and they just want a room). It's up to the OP and the couple to do some homework, examine their budget & schedule, and make a choice.
BlueHerons Posted January 17, 2019 #11 Share Posted January 17, 2019 You are going to be at the mercy of any hotels that will let a 21 year old and a 19 year old check in. Make sure they bring their marriage license, that may help them. Wherever you book, ask about age restrictions.
