reedprincess Posted February 18, 2019 #52 Share Posted February 18, 2019 Review of AI: We were at PB January 30. Not sure how many ships in port total, at least 6. We arrived at PB about 11am, checked in quickly, paid the balance due of $63 and got our wristbands. Headed right into the park ad were met by an onslaugt of waiters vying for our business. We went with Omar, he escorted us to prime pool front chairs, he arranged our towels for us with our clips and such while we were picking up our first Pina Colada. Once those were set - off we went! Ordered up two mojitos and went to explore the area while he got those for us. Walked around the beach area, along by the water park stuff, checked out the massage palapa and headed back to the chairs. Mojitos arrived within a minute or two, along with a plate of mixed nachos he thought we might like. Fab. We ate and drank all we wanted - tried the different tacos from. The taco truck, had the mixed plate with enchilada, taco, burrito, etc and multiple drinks. Omar and his assistant Jose were seriously in the ball. Anything we wanted from any of the food or drink menus was included. Only thing excluded were the souvenir yard long drink cups and things like that. Did some tequila tasting, enjoyed some beers, couple mojitos, etc. We had a great time - couldn't have asked for better weather or atmosphere if we tried. Music was chil, guests we're friendly and laid back, food was tasty and plentiful- appreciated the small portions so we could try different things... All in all, it was a hit for us and we'll be doing it again when we go back in a couple months. Found the AI to be an absolute bargain for us.

We've been to PB many times over the years and wanted to try the AI option this time. Upon arrival, they do explain the AI option to you but also present you with the option and prices for the pay as you go option. You get a bracelet and are given choice to sit by pool or beach. We went with beach. It was windy and they did not allow any of the umbrellas to be opened on this day. No biggie for us but imagine it would be for someone who needed shade. There were 5 ships just at the Puerta Maya pier with us. Not sure how many at the International pier and PB was not busy AT ALL. As a matter of fact I've never in all my visits seen it so empty. You could order any food off the menu. The food was good but the portions were much smaller than they used to be. We ordered nachos with chicken (which we've had in the past). The portion was much smaller than when we previously ordered. Now there's nothing saying you can't order more than one. Just letting you know the portions were smaller. I drank mixed drinks and my dh drank Dos Equis. They offered a draft in a 9oz. cup or a big bottle (40 oz) in a bucket of ice. I found the mixed drinks to be very watered down. Something I thought odd was that the entire beach was lined with loungers but you were only allowed to enter at one small section (maybe 1/4 of the size of the entire beach). PB staff (4 of them) stood at the shore line all day long and whistled if any one entered any other area. Extremely inconvenient for anyone not sitting in that area. The wait staff were excellent. I mean every few minutes asking if we needed anything, refilling ice in the bucket, and offering to get food. Don't know if they were that attentive because the beach was so empty? Around 3:00 we wanted to switch to the pool area. Our one waiter said that we would receive another waiter if we went to the pool which I didn't like because now we would potentially need to tip 4 waiters instead of two as they work in teams. We told our head waiter that we wanted to keep him so he continued to serve us by the pool. No bottles of beer at the pool though which is understandable because of the glass. At the end of the day, the waiter prints a bill of everything you ordered with a zero balance and asks you to sign it. He then explains that gratuity was not included and gives you the opportunity to tip him. I liked it and would do it again but am anxious to hear from someone else that has the mixed drinks because as I mentioned earlier, mine were very watered down. Thanks for the review. Are you saying the plate size was reduced for everyone now or just the AI? was the restricted beach area exclusive for AI or that was the only area open for everyone? I'm not sure of the plate size for the pay as you go crowd because I didn't really look around to see what others were eating. I just noticed that it was smaller than what we used to get. As for the beach, that was the only area open for everyone. There weren't too many AI guests and the ones that were there were just intermingled with everyone else. I wouldn't want AI and just wondered if the plates were now smaller if you were PAYG. I understand reducing waste for AI but they are a higher priced beach bar and just wondered if you were now paying the same amount for a smaller plate. JohninDC Posted February 18, 2019 #57 Share Posted February 18, 2019 We were there earlier in February and did no notice any difference in pay as you go portion sizes. The volcano nachos were still fabulous.

As I noted in my review above - all you want. We ate from the taco truck - as many as we wanted. Made or own burritos. Had several items of the main menu - no problems. All we wanted. It was pretty impressive. As for where to sit or using facilities - we had full run just like Pay as You Go folks. We opted for pool seats, worked perfect for us. Could have had beach chairs instead. Or switched places partway through (although that would have switched our servers too) We had a great time - it was just what we were looking for. Jenner9 Posted January 4, 2020 #62 Share Posted January 4, 2020 I know this is an older thread but I am doing some research on PB. When grabbing chairs, either by the pool or beach, is it safe to leave your belongings to go explore things?

Will all your stuff still be there, maybe. Paradise Beach is a very large complex and can be very busy depending on time of year, number of ships and land vacationers. I believe there are lockers for rent if you are there early enough. I certainly wouldn’t leave anything of value on a lounger anywhere.
JohninDC Posted January 4, 2020 #65 Share Posted January 4, 2020 PB does offer lockers, they are located near the restrooms.
