vmom Posted January 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2019 Is it possible to pick up a taxi or tour service at the port for a tour of the island? We haven’t planned anything and we leave on Saturday. Thanks!
JohninDC Posted January 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2019 (edited) Yes. Coordinate with the cab expedited and have an idea of what you want to see and how long you want to tour. Edited January 21, 2019 by JohninDC

We haven’t planned anything and we leave on Saturday. Thanks! This is what I would recommend. We took a tour with Glory Tours and it was fine - but we were time-limited at our stops. We really liked Harrisons Cave and St Nicholas Abbey (Simon is a hoot) and would have preferred more leisurely experiences at those places, then headed to a beach for the rest of the day.
Aplmac Posted January 30, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2019 If you engage a taxi driver outside the Port's gate-house they are less shark-y that the mercenaries inside the Port itself. Let the guy know if you have any particular interests (History? ..whatever?) and chances are excellent he can plan a tour to suit you. Heck, it's your half/day, and he really doesn't care which way to drive you as long as you're happy -and he gets paid. Sounds like Life anywhere, doesn't it. Just agree time/$$$ before you jump in and drive away. Our East Coast is the pretty, scenic side of the island - about half-hour away, plus you'll see stuff on the way over there. The island is only 21 miles long, and about 14 mi. wide at the thick end. .
OCruisers Posted January 30, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2019 Many taxi drivers will love to take you on an island tour. Do agree in advance on the length of time and the total price for the two of you. Enjoy!
beshears Posted February 6, 2019 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2019 OK, so "if" we get a Taxi that is not right there at the gate, and a little ways away from the gate, can you give me an idea of what a tour for a couple hours of Barbados might be for two people? O2B@Cagain Posted February 10, 2019 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2019 beshears: It has been a few years, but when we stopped for a day, we asked the taxi dispatcher for a tour for the two of us. He called somewhere and a young lady showed up in her car. We asked her to show us the Barbados that would make us want to come back. She took us the the east coast and to a few historic churches, to a local place for lunch, back by the west coast. We had a great day and I think it was $100 US. Loved the Bathsheba area...

That's about right. US$100 for a custom tour. I'll bet she took you here ... to St. John's Parish Church with a view looking over the East Coast and Bathsheba . O2B@Cagain Posted February 11, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 11, 2019 Aplmac: Yes, and also St James in Holetown? I always like to ask locals "Where is the place tourists don't see, but you really like?" Then I try to keep it a secret.LOL
