Carl Nival Posted February 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Ahoy, Carnival Lovers, I recently took a cruise on Royal Caribbean, and I noticed that as soon as I used my SeaPass Card for a purchase, my credit card got charged. Will this be the case with my Sign and Sale Card? Thanks, James

Will this be the case with my Sign and Sale Card? Thanks, James I am a regular Royal cruiser and I can tell you that you may see multiple random “pending” charges throughout the week. These pending charges will drop off after your cruise and only the actual balance owed will be billed. I am sure most all cruise lines will ding a credit card with multiple charges during the week to be sure the card is still valid. Nothing unusual about this... Oh and please don’t think I am a Royal cheerleader...I have a 14 day Carnival Journey cruise booked for November...😁😁😁
bury me at sea Posted February 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2019 If you have nothing other than your credit card backing your account (cash, Cruise Cash, gift cards, etc), Carnival will probably put a hold for some amount on your credit car in short order. Aplmac Posted February 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2019 That's why I plunk down a bunch of cash instead of fooling around with credit card companies!
ElCrappyTan Posted February 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2019 You card will not be "charged", but CCL will get additional authorizations (beyond the initial one at embarkation) from your card company to make sure you can cover your S&S charges. It won't be an authorization every time you charge, but you may see multiple authorizations throughout a cruise, especially if you are a big spender. Last cruise I had 5-6 on a 7-day cruise. Carl Nival Posted February 7, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted February 7, 2019 Thank you, everyone, for your input. The reason I asked was because the cruise falls betweens 2 credit card billing cycles, and I was trying to figure out my budget. Thanks again. What do you mean fooling around with credit card companies? What about mileage or cash back? Many cards are offering 2%, we charge everything including utility bills.

I fully understand your usage of the system as described aboveand good for you!! but bear in my mind that we live difrnt lifestyles in difrnt countries. I live on a small Carib. island where I've never had a credit card in my nearly-70 yrs. of existence, and hope never to have one! Credit does not exist for me, although it works for you -and I'm glad.
coevan Posted February 7, 2019 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2019 very understandable, just didn't understand the "fooling around" part. I have a friend that owns a restaurant in BVI and he tells me what a pain CC companies are and AMEX is the worst for the islanders.

My wife works in a touristy Art Gallery, here on the island and for years they simply would not take American Express unless it was a large purchase. AMEX commissions were way more than other card systems but I'm told they have recently lowered their rates to be more competitive!
dmdiver Posted February 7, 2019 #11 Share Posted February 7, 2019 You will see pending charges. The cruise line just wants to be sure they will be getting their money. You'll see them there, but the only charge that actually goes through is the one for the balance at the end of the cruise. This hasn't caused a problem for us, as we don't charge anywhere near the limit on our card. Plus, we use a Carnival mastercard for cruise expenses & nothing else. If anything were to happen with the account, it's not our primary card.
