stsmall Posted February 20, 2019 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We are our cruise in June - 7 day Alaska Inside Passage on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Can anyone give me some idea of how long it is likely to take to disembark in Vancouver? We arrive in Vancouver at 7am on 29/6. Is there some system they use for disembarking? Thanks
CruiserBruce Posted February 20, 2019 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2019 There is absolutely a system, used by every HAL ship in conjunction with every port where a cruise ends. During the cruise you will be asked what your post cruise travel needs are, particularly what time you have a flight. Based on that info, you will be assigned a group and color bag tag (which be issued to you)and an approximate disembarking time. Then, during disembarking, they will call the colors/groups. Generally, they follow this very solidly. The final goal is to empty the ship before 10am, frequently earlier. They have very high rate of success. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 20, 2019 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2019 It is an excellent system. I see that you are from Australia. Are you planning on staying over in Vancouver? It is a great city to stay a couple of days and see everything.
knittinggirl Posted February 20, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2019 We disembarked the Nieuw Amsterdam last May, we were some of the first off the ship, and the porters were all gone. We were not even allowed to use the dolly sitting empty, because we were told that was for porters only. On our second trip last fall we heard from the Concierge that Vancouver has a porter union, and sometimes they are gone with union duties.

To which I would simply add that, if your assigned group is too early or too late, go to guest services and you can generally select a new group and receive the corresponding baggage tags.
