AliceSprings Posted March 31, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2019 We want to relax on our balcony and the top deck of the ship, but will be eaten alive by bugs?

Probably not, but you might want to say where you are cruising, and when.

Rare notamermaid Posted March 31, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2019 Not really. The swamps have been vastly reduced in number over the last 200 years and while there are still breeding grounds for the standard European biting insects, they have been further reduced by biological means (a special company deals with them in Spring). If you are prone to being bitten use normal insect repellent. In the heat I tend to be more wary of wasps feeding on cake and sweet drinks standing around. Standard advice: keep the windows shut when you have the light on. You will get fewer and fewer of the "beasts" as the autumn progresses. In November it tends to be too cold for them already. But it can vary a bit every year. It also depends a little on where you are sailing along the river. notamermaid
