We haven't been on Carnival for a while.  Do they have $5.00 min. blackjack tables??

No they do not. The min is 6 on the lowest table. It can be on the bet or the thing that pays 20 with two cards. Have not seen 5 dollars in many years

Is it best to play the side bet or just put the whole $6 as your bet?

side bets are always the sucker bet.

But, since Carnival went to continuous shuffling machines and only pay 6:5 for BlackJack ?????

I’ve see people win a lot of money on that side bet. I don’t play it. Be prepared for people that do play it to point out every time you would’ve won had you played it. They won’t point out all the times you would’ve lost though.

The payout for blackjacks is lower than land based casinos. I haven’t see them raise the min bet. But I have seen ships only have one or two $6 tables that stay loaded the entire cruise where you can’t even play. You’re also more likely to find people who don’t really know how to play there than at land based casinos.

Best to play the whole thing on a betfor myself. I have seen people play the side bet with larger amount than the best. Sometimes it pays off as for myself iusually take ten dollar and play on the side bet and after ten hands i have no singles left so i go to playing six on the bet. Usually people will loss the side bet more often. But if you play five or ten dollars on it and win three of ten side bets you might come out ahead, Dealers will tell you often the side bet is a sucker bet

Since they pay 6:5, it is best to bet $5 on the hand and $1 on the side bet. That way, you will be paid $6 for your $5 wager on a blackjack. If you are betting $6 on the hand and get a blackjack, you will only be paid $7 vs. the $7.20 you are owed on a 6:5 table.

Saw this title and was curious.  No 2:1 on BlackJack?  What do they do on soft 17?  What other house edge add-ons are there?

2:1 on blackjack? Maybe only in tournament play... The former standard payout was 3:2.

3:2 is standard but the ship pays 6:5

Sadly, 3:2 isn't standard in many places anymore. Most everywhere has moved to 6:5 -- even the Las Vegas strip, where there are 'competitors' every 1/4 mile... You can find it, but typically at higher minimums ($25-50).

Edit: annotated 'competitors' since in Las Vegas, 2 companies control 75% of the strip. 🙂

3:2 is standard in Louisiana. That’s all I know.

I do remember people pointing out what you could have won, never how many time you lost.

Also be careful if you don't play using basic strategy as some players will get irritated that you "took their card" or you "let them get a card" you should have taken. I use basic strategy but I don't care how the other guys/gals play as it is for fun.
