cruzky Posted April 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2019 Last July we stayed at the Movenpick City Centre. Right at the pier. We loved it. We walked from the river cruise boat to the hotel when we disembarked. We also walked into town from there. It’s maybe a 10 to 15 minute walk. Ine Posted April 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2019 If you use the search function lots of hotels will be showing. Much depend where you want to stay, near the cruise terminal, near Centraal Station, closer to the museas etc. Amsterdam is rather compact nothing is that far away. Any idea of the area in which you would like to stay? Price range? We have enjoyed all of the hotels in which we have stayed - including the Movenpick (conveniently located next to the cruise terminal). Our all time favorites are boutique options and are both located on canals. Hotel Estherea - central location, great breakfast, singel canal. Seven one Seven - converted old canal mansion, great location on Prinsengracht, good breakfast, our room overlooked the canal. We have also stayed at the Pulitzer - liked it too. Great walkable city - lots of choices.

We are going in July and took what seemed like forever to find what looked good. Ultimately, we chose Banks Mansion which seemed to be a good location and had more amenities than other options, but of course that increases the cost. For us we have 3 together so it is hard to find a room for 3. With only two it really comes down to where in the city you want to stay and what is your price range. BobbyD Posted April 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted April 9, 2019 We are staying 4 nights pre-cruise in August at Banks Mansion. First time in Amsterdam and looking forward to it!
aqua Posted April 10, 2019 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2019 We were very happy with the Doubletree Amsterdam Centraal Station. We took the train from the airport and made the short walk to the hotel. The hotel was very nice and the location was convenient for sightseeing and using the trams. The cruise pier was about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. It was a great choice for us. wheezedr Posted April 10, 2019 #9 Share Posted April 10, 2019 We also used the Doubletree. Convenient location with many things walkable and trams nearby for travel to museum area.
sally4909 Posted April 11, 2019 #10 Share Posted April 11, 2019 We are crusing in August of 2020 and have just started looking at hotels. Also looking for a private evening canal tour. Do any of the private canal boats pick you up at a hotel? If so, are there certain hotels that they start and finish ? Being a little nervous of being out after dark and not knowing Amsredam at all, was hoping that an option of being picked up at a hotel might be possible. Thanks for your help.
GlennaRoseGoes Posted April 11, 2019 #11 Share Posted April 11, 2019 I’ve stayed multiple times at both the Doubletree Centraal Station and the Swissotel. Doubletree is super convenient for the train station if you wanted to head out of city or to the airport. Swissotel is a wee bit more centrally located; trams still stop right in front, so very easy to get around.
3rdCoastFan Posted April 14, 2019 #12 Share Posted April 14, 2019 I just came back from a 3-night stay at the Kimpton DeWitt before a river cruise. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable hotel that's about 5 minutes walk from Centraal. Rooms were compact but the AC worked well (as did the elevators!). It would have been hard for two of us to unpack our suitcases due to the lack of storage but it was a short stay for us and it didn't really make a difference. Not much room to hang things up, even. Our room overlooked the interior courtyard so noise wasn't an issue - the hotel is otherwise off a busy street and I could see noise being an issue for someone staying in a room overlooking the front street. Breakfast was being offered through the on-site restaurant, Wyers, and while the buffet seemed price (maybe €24/person), a la carte options were reasonable (and, more importantly, the food was good). Trams were easy to catch, too. Our cruise port ended up being on the northwest corner of the city so it didn't matter to us that we weren't close to the cruise terminal. We would absolutely stay there again.
