Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2019 Author #126 Share Posted June 4, 2019 You're too kind mysty. But on to lunch. . . . . Rojaan had the trout salad and the 4 cheese pasta and I had the same pasta and the jerk chicken. . . . She then had the cherry dessert and I the cheesecake. . . The weather improved as the day went on.We just relaxed in the afternoon after a very good lunch in the MDR.Went back a place at the trivia coming second.I bombed out in the putting competition.
Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2019 Author #127 Share Posted June 4, 2019 Dinner in the MDR.The menu has 2 pages that remain constant but the first page has changed every night so far.A really good choice and I notice more choice for vegetarians as well.We both had the lobster again. We chose to share a table and once again a delightful night. One fellow was a retired US Admiral who had commanded a US battle group in the first Iraq war.He then was instrumental in setting up the Midway museum in San Diego. Some great conversation. We both had the carpaccio and then the lobster. . . As usual we once again felt tired so missed the show.In fact Rojan after dinner just has to lie on the bed and she is asleep. Day 4.No problems with my breakfast order today but I have been terribly disappointed with the bacon. It seems to have either been cooked in water or kept in a hot water bath to keep it warm.It looks anaemic and tastes watery. Today is Waterford. The sail in. . . .
Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2019 Author #128 Share Posted June 4, 2019 Today was spent in Waterford Ireland.Unfortunately being Sunday virtually all the shops were closed. It was pretty quiet with the exception of the Waterford Crystal shop.We didn't bother with the factory tour as it is not where the majority of the product is made.We did look at the shop and have a coffee and a Portugese egg tart each at their cafe. . . . .. . . . . .

Rare Fletcher Posted June 5, 2019 #132 Share Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) The watery bacon is probably what we call 'back bacon' in the UK. It's awful stuff, yet most of the nation regards it as proper bacon. This cut is fairly lean and cannot be cooked to a crispy texture. It is merely flabby. It was probably brought on board in the UK. The only decent bacon is actually American-style streaky bacon which cooks to a crispy texture. It's a similar cut to pancetta. NB: Bacon is among the least healthy things to eat, causing cancer and early death. It's also rather yummy. Rare drron29 Posted June 5, 2019 Author #133 Share Posted June 5, 2019 In Australia we get either full rashers or short cut-just the meaty bit. They certainly can be crisped but a whole lot less than American bacon which is usually cremated. And very much better than the stuff we had on board. Rare drron29 Posted June 5, 2019 Author #135 Share Posted June 5, 2019 . . . . We then walked a little aimlessly around. Not just the main streets but an occasional back alley where the quality of the housing was quite poor.In the areas we went the fast food outlets were mainly pizza and fried chicken.Local Irish delicacies obviously. Murphy's appeared the only Irish food. . . We came upon the old city walls in the back streets.. . . .

Rare drron29 Posted June 5, 2019 Author #140 Share Posted June 5, 2019 It was then time to spruce up and attend the Virtuoso cocktail party in the observation lounge..I scrubbed up pretty well with my pink jacket. Rare drron29 Posted June 5, 2019 Author #145 Share Posted June 5, 2019 An informal night spent in the MDR again. The menu has certainly improved dramatically from past years. As well the first page of the menu has a suggested 4 courses plus some extras. This seems to change every night. The next 2 pages change little but lobster has been on every night so far.We shared a table with a couple from Missouri and an English couple.Another delightful night. This is one of the reasons I love Silversea. Some great cruising partners. Once again couldn't stay awake for the show. . . . . Rojaan started off with the smoked salmon and potato and I had the jumbo scallops. . . Then I had the starter of cheese ravioli and the duck. Rojaan once again had the lobster(not shown). . . We both had the ginger and kaffir lime creme brulee.Yummy. .
Rare drron29 Posted June 5, 2019 Author #146 Share Posted June 5, 2019 Sunsets weren't great on this trip.Too much cloud. . . We awoke next morning docking in Dublin. . I had the full English for breakfast. . As an aside I had the full English breakfast in Hampshire this morning and the bacon was 1000% better than on the Wind.
Rare drron29 Posted June 5, 2019 Author #147 Share Posted June 5, 2019 So now to Day 5.Dublin.We were going to take a tour to Powerscourt Gardens but it had basically been cancelled as Prince Charles was visiting that day.So we just took the shuttle into the CBD.We usually do this as I think it is important to actually get some exercise rather than sitting in a coach for hours unless it really is interesting.Besides using this cruise as a bit of a guide to possibly driving in Ireland in the future. At the shuttle stop. .. We now walked down to Trinity College. . . . I had hoped to see the Book of Kells but just after 1000 the next available time with a ticket was 1400.Did find out from the attendant on the line that by booking on line you get to go in immediately,if a ticket then line up until your time.Plus our senior cards get us a discount. So a wander around the campus. . . . .
