Would appreciate tips on the best/safest neighborhood to stay for 4 nights pre-cruise in Buenos Aires. Interested in art, architecture, tango, and great local food and wine. Thanks!

Stayed 3 days @ Tanguero Hotel Boutique, Suipacha 780. Very convenient w/ breakfast for less than US$80 per night. Close to ATM, restaurants, etc. Cabs cheap. Great meal Santos Manjares*, Steakhouse, Paraguay 938

Took 3 tours from BASAS4U, city tour, Tango show & Estancia tour all w/ pu & return to hotel. Also did a "free" walking tour.

Loved BA & felt safe.

We're staying at an airbnb post-cruise in Recoleta.  Here's a Vogue article about it.

And that cemetery is amazing...even if Evita Peron weren't buried there.  We spent a couple of days in BA last year pre-Patagonia and Antarctica trip so are really looking forward to going back.

We stayed at the 4Seasons and Hyatt both in Recoleta area and always felt ok.

Did a lot of walking No Jewelry my husband was told to take off his gold medic alert by a cab driver.

We felt very safe.  Five nights in town, lots of walking about.

We never travel with expensive jewelry.  Does not matter where we are going.  Cruises or otherwise.  I have a 'travel' watch. DW only takes a small amount of costume jewelry.

  • 2 weeks later...

We returned this March to Buenos Aires.  We were also there in 2015.  The number of homeless people has definitely increased.

In 2015 we stayed in a boutique hotel in Recoleta.  This past trip we stayed at the Alvear Art Hotel, and given the rates, I thought it was over-priced for what it was.  But the art collection was lovely.
