Rome/Civitavcchia port question

We will be getting to the cruise port relatively early (approximately 11:30am) in Civitavcchia/Rome.  Is there anything to do near the port (walking distance) or are we better off just staying on the ship?

Check in, board, go to your cabin and unpack your carry-ons. Go to lunch, then confirm/make specialty restaurant, spa, salon reservations. Return to cabin to check on paperwork that's there, such as daily program, shore excursion tickets, gifts.
By then, some luggage should be arriving---unpack!

It's nice to be fully unpacked by the time of muster drill. Then you are free to relax and enjoy. There really isn't a lot of time to head into town. You're busy!

Actually Civitavecchia is quite easy to get around and there are some nice things to see including an archaeology museum and a nice spot not far away with restaurants, shopping and gorgeous views over the walls.

I am guessing that you are sailing around 5 pm?  If that is the case you will need to be back on board for muster drill which will probably be around 3:30 pm.

It really doesn’t leave you a lot of time so, I would be tempted to follow Ruth’s advice 😉

Would there be anywhere to pick up a 6 pack of diet coke?

There is a small grocery store approximately one block from the port entrance. Todis is the name of the store.  They also have a decent wine selection, snacks etc.
