Currently on Infinity - very weird poolside music

Just another thought from a Senior (OMG) who loves all kinds of music.  As I mentioned earlier, we are in the era of personal devices where "everybody" walks around with earbuds crammed in their head.  They are listening to their own favorite music, podcasts, etc.  So why does Celebrity insist on forcing folks out of their own comfort zone?  All the ships now have pretty decent WiFi systems.  The ship could simply program some music channels (via apps) similar to Pandora or Apple Music.  They could probably get away with even having a small charge for the service.  In addition, they could sell various personal devices in the shops for those that do not have a smart phone (or other device).    This is the kind of forward thinking that seems to escape LLP...who simply looks at things to cut!

I should add that Princess actually was way ahead of their time when back in around 2000 they tried an experiment on some of their Grand Class ships.  Some folks were whining about the loud noise from the then, new, Movies Under the Stars, so Princess experimented to giving all passengers small personal single frequency FM receivers (with ear phones) to listen to MUTS.  During the daytime the speakers were muted and only those who wanted to listen (and watch the videos/movies) would have to deal with the noise over their own receiver.   They did not continue this experiment for a long time because the devices were not very good and this kind of technology was not widely accepted.  But now, times have changed.

Another thought from me. We were forced out of the "Sunset Bar". We couldn't even hold a conversation. I'd expect tranquillity in a place called the "Sunset Bar", but no. Not a single bar on the whole Silhouette was without music. The most relaxed place was the smoking area, outside, on deck 5 forward, portside. A 5 minute walk to the nearest bar. @X If you want me to spend money, make it possible to order a drink in a place that hasn't the ambience of an elevator.

Do you think this is part of a LLP strategy to drive everyone under 40 away from Celebrity?  Is she trying to turn X into Carnival II?"

Aren't the sunset bars usually combos only with more mellow type music?  Also, the sunset bar is one of my favorite places to actually listen to music and it's disappointing when there is no music there.  I guess some like it and some don't.

(You mean above 40?) I was on Silhouette twice. Can't remember that the music was a nuisance the first time, but the second is very vivid, especially the Sunset Bar. People aged 40-70, relaxing with a drink, a few cocktails, but most drinking tea, reading a book, having a conversation or simply looking out at sea. BOOM BOOM BOOM.

We're having a similar discussion at the same time in another thread :) I don't know what LLP is thinking but I feel that the spenders are already on X and this is a sure way to scare them away.

I think you are on to something...LLP may be from the Royal C brand, aspire to be the mark of the  Celebrity brand, but is really at heart  the Carnival brand.  How sad!

Well, this was not mellow, this was very loud Ibiza kind of music from the speakers (we needed to move to simply speak to each other as if we were in a nightclub). Good music for a club at 2 AM, and there I would enjoy it.

I maybe a bit romantic, but let me tell you what's best part of cruising for me, and that's where we probably differ. All my 4 14 night cruises were with the mother of my business partner (in another cabin, so no romance in that sense). Simply sitting outside, chatting a bit about the weather and sometimes about the less nice things of life that you can only really discuss after a week without work and other distractions. Listening to the waves, once again assuring each other that our phones have no reach but they'll probably manage, then continue to talk about absolutely nothing, asking if my companion if she can see that ship far away, it's a ship isn't it, it can't be an island, no we're too far away from land, it's probably a ship, or it could be an oil rig. Yes, near Norway, I do think it's an oil rig. But I'm not sure. The attentive waiter brings us a new drink without asking and charges it without needing a card. For me the total doing nothing and caring about nothing is the best part of a cruise. Better than the casino (which I do enjoy), better than any shorex. For me that includes not needing to listen to music.

In 12 nights on the Infinity last month the only two songs I heard from the last 5 years were Fireball by Pitbull and Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars, the latter we heard A LOT.  Almost everything else I recall was 10-30 years old - recall hearing some late 80s stuff.
