klemi Posted September 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2019 Will be on Wine Spirit in one wee! Is there anywhere close to dock to purchase wine before we get on theship?
Donald Posted September 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2019 You probably meant to type Wind Spirit? A great pun, in any case. Tahiti is a French colony that is a very, very long way from France. They are very proud to offer a wide array of French products - including wines - that have been shipped at high cost from France. On top of that the Tahiti government adds a high import tax on alcohol. Prices for French wines in Tahiti can be shockingly high. You might want to think about a "Plan B" for wine. milepig Posted September 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2019 There are decent prices in airport Duty Free. You pass it after baggage claim and customs. Remember the WS wine limits. We had the booze package, but bought a couple bottles for the 2 days we had before. If you stay at the Sofitel there is a nice grocery store in easy walking distance and also a boulangerie/patisserie that you’ll swear was brought over from Paris intact. Also a well reviewed French restaurant that we didn’t sample.

dandee2 Posted September 10, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Price are reasonnable (from about 12$+ a bottle) Here is a sample at the local Carrefour at the Pacific Plaza. Also a few other wine shop downtown Papeete (La cave de Tahiti). BTW, Tahiti is NOT a French colony but a Territoire d'Outre-mer (Oversea territory) with their own Assembly, President, Budget and Laws. France is responsible for Education, Security and some subsidies.

ducklite Posted September 17, 2019 #9 Share Posted September 17, 2019 They also have a lot of New Zealand wines in Tahiti, as we found that both those and the French wines were quite reasonable. Unless you want Champagne--we were STUNNED by how much Carrefour wanted for that. It's cheaper to buy on the ship even with their markup. We find their markup on Champagne to be reasonable, some of the California wines carry an atrocious mark up while others are OK.
dandee2 Posted September 17, 2019 #10 Share Posted September 17, 2019 Agree with Ducklite. You can browse this week flyer from Carrefour to give you an idea of prices for groceries and everyday items.https://en.calameo.com/read/004508499613b727b35c9?page=
