The airlines do it also.  Every time I fly I get an email to bid for an upgrade.  I just wonder how many people actually do it.

I certainly look, we upgraded on Royal through that program from a Oceanview to a Silver Suite for $150pp (the minimum bid), sometimes it is worth it.

Yep, total price with what we paid and the upgrade, is still cheaper than what the inside cabins are currently going for on the same cruise.

I've seen crew and entertainment changes 2 days in/out on a cruise; it's fairly common.

 

Helps with utilisation as it means that cabin is freed up for the next entertainer, and also crew changes do occur.
