Princess at St. Thomas

Does anyone have any highly recommended things to do on St. Thomas?  I would really like to go to St. John.  Can anyone recommend a great excursion to going there?  Also, is it better to go to the area with the green sea turtles or the other beach area they talk about?  And through Princess or private excursion, it does not matter to us.

Thank you in advance!

Get off the ship as soon as you can, catch a cab to Red Hook Ferry.  The ferry sets sail about every 30 minutes I think.  Takes just a few minutes to get there.

We hit St. John each and every time we are in St. Thomas.  Spend about four or five hours at Hawksnest Beach, then shop around the pier area before heading back to the ship.

If you decide to go to St. Johns on your own just make sure you know the ferry schedules and give yourself plenty of time for the taxi back to the ship.  You can google the ferry schedules. Do check out the ports of call boards.

Cruz Bay St. Johns is very small with little to do. There are taxis there that can take you to beaches, like Trunk Bay. I have been to St. Johns a few times, but always with a ship's tour. In Charlotte Amalie the ship docks at Havensight, also called West Indian Dock. There is a mall right there. The Skyride is a short walk. There are taxis that can take you downtown. A popular beach is Megan's Bay. Some like to take the ferry to Water Island for the beach, but the ferry is over by Crown Bay, maybe 20 minutes by taxi.

We went to St. John's when we had a longer time in port. When Princess ships docked in Crown Bay, we enjoyed walking to Emerald Beach. The open air taxis are plentiful. It's easy to get one to take you to any of the beaches or downtown.

Hopefully they return to Crown Bay sometime in the future.
