Edinburgh Military Tattoo

We will be on a Quest itinerary that offers a shore excursion on Aug. 20 next summer to the Edinburgh Tattoo.

The excursion is about 5 hours long and includes “premium” seating. The cost is about $550 US.

Some questions for those with experience of this event:

1/ Is “premium” seating important?

2/ With a taxi, do you get closer to a drop-off point for the site rather than with the tour bus?

3/ Is it better to arrange this experience on our own?

4/ Are there private tour providers that you would recommend?

Thanks in advance to those who can share their knowledge.

Honestly no and what a loading as I think we can buy premium tickets for about £100

You don’t need a provider

Best thing google the tattoo website. Sign up for notifications on ticket release. It’s usually 1 December and buy your own tickets.

Transportation you could use Uber or a bus from Ocean terminal. Coming back it’s downhill and traffic is stopped anyway so you are better to walk away from the area down to Princes Street and get transportation there. Pre arrangements don’t work it’s a nightmare to connect up with your driver.

If you do DIY post back and I can give you more specifics on getting there and back.

We did the Tattoo this August while on a cruise on the Journey. We bought the tickets on our own from the Tattoo’s website. We took the bus, which was easy. We followed Uktog’s advice she gave on a thread of where to get the bus afterwards, it was very easy.
We did not have premium seats, but our seats were very good, and under $100 US a piece. It was a fabulous experience!

Thanks everyone for the prompt replies. They are really helpful.

And unlike some topics on this forum, so far there seems to be a consistent position by all. 🙂

I will immediately follow uktog's suggestion to sign up on the website to access ticket purchases.

And, of course, return here when inevitable questions arise.
