Depends where "in the West" you are.  Where I am, we are in boots year 'round.  From hiking boots to booties to boots, they are not a seasonal item.  What you won't see are a lot of blingy or strappy sandals plodding the sidewalks (unless those strappy sandals are Tevas or Chacos)...

Nope no boots.  Check out boat shoes if you must wear closed two shoes.

I think a cute pair of shooties/booties especially perforated leather or a cute denim would be awesome (as long as you aren't headed to the beach on your rambles.  And cute on-board too.

Even cute with a little mini-skirt or sundress.
