chiokie Posted December 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2019 The Regal Princess has no itinerary for the week of January 12, 2020. Does anyone know what's happening that week.

MissP22 Posted December 29, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2019 I'm not sure what else they'll be doing besides cleaning up the ship.

It is scheduled as a routine drydock with a few onboard changes. That likely means that the hull and props will be serviced, hull repainted/coated, and necessary maintenance performed on various mechanical systems. I just wonder how these schedules have been impacted by all the hurricane damage suffered on Grand Bahama Island. We know that one of the main drydock facilities suffered lots of damage which has taken it out of service for some period of time. Two weeks ago we were on MSC's new out island (Ocean Cay) and met a couple of workers who lived in Freeport. They both had been laid off from their jobs at the large Freeport dry dock facility since it was undergoing repairs. They counted themselves fortunate that MSC had some job openings at Ocean Cay (now open but undergoing further construction). The dry dock facilities on Grand Bahama are very important to the cruise industry because it is very convenient to ships that spend a lot of time cruising out of Eastern USA ports. There is some talk about changes to the mid-ship and aft stairways but we do not know the details. They will often use drydocks as an opportunity to replace lots of carpeting, upgrade bedding, etc. Cruise ships also maintain a pretty long list of "deferred maintenance" items which are things that need repair or replacement but are simply ignored until the next dry dock. It was the crane falling down on a RCCL ship that did this. Granted, the hurricane probably didn't help matters.

They could not use the DD for awhile.
MissP22 Posted December 29, 2019 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2019 The crew said it was suppose to be a wet dock.
Rare Paula_MacFan Posted December 29, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 29, 2019 Someone posted several weeks ago the Regal will be in the Bahamas for dry dock that week. It was of interest to me since we board the Regal on the 19th so we'll be on the first sailing afterwards. I hope they replace bedding since people have posted recently that our cabin still has the old mattress. I assume they will be replacing carpet too, but haven't heard specifics. Loucat Posted December 30, 2019 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2019 Just off Regal yesterday. All crew described a "wet dock" not dry dock. Time for certain repairs and no one aware of interior changes. Just our reported information.
Steelers36 Posted December 31, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2019 If not already done, Regal has been due for the Princess Luxury Bed in 2019, so looks like they are probably completing it a bit late. Royal was also scheduled for the bed in 2019. The last two in the fleet.
