tksauter Posted December 31, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Can anyone let me know if the ship stays in Cabo overnight when it is in port for two days? And if it does, can one get on and off via tender all night? The itinerary isn't clear. Thanks in advance!
webzila Posted December 31, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2019 The itinerary shows that it departs at 7 PM on day 1 and then comes back in AM of day 2 There is also this old article from 2009 talking about the same thing but another Carnival ship (not Panorama) but should be the same process https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=3169
tksauter Posted December 31, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Thanks Webzila, that is definitely a bummer. Would be cool to enjoy the night time in this port
Rare Saint Greg Posted December 31, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2019 I thought I remembered someone posting you didn’t have to get back on board night one.
Denverdonkeys Posted December 31, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2019 On the Splendor (I think), we didn't have to get back on night 1, but if for some reason they couldn't come back that next morning, you were stuck. lots of people got a hotel room so they could do the cabo night life. but the ship definitely left port.

You don't, but you run the risk of being stranded there if the ship can't re-enter the harbor the next morning due to weather or tidal conditions. Those who take the chance are advised to have their passports with them as they are required to fly out of Cabo.

The downside of this, however, is if the ship doesn't return the 2nd day (high winds preventing tendering, etc.). Be sure and take plane fare ! 🙂

Well, Duh ! just read the press date . . . dumb of me, dumb of me. Couldn't understand why people were talking about a 2-night stay in Cabo. I don't do reviews, but will have something to say about the PANORAMA. This is my "white card" cruise. 🙂 Edited December 31, 2019 by glrounds

However if for any reason the ship can't anchor the next day then you would be responsible for your own transportation to meet them at the next port. sanmarcosman Posted December 31, 2019 #11 Share Posted December 31, 2019 This has to be the shortest thread in Cruise Critic history that no one is reading before posting. 🙂 I say this with love. 2
arc918 Posted December 31, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2019 We did Cabo, Cabo, PV on the Miracle a couple summers ago. The ship left and sailed around a returned back to Cabo in the morning. Apparently they are saving on port fees and allowing the casino to operate. Makes me wonder what kind of port fees cost more than running a giant ship all night on a circle to nowhere! I can't vouch for or verify what I'm going to say, but I have read over the years here on Cruise Critic that the tidal conditions in Cabo harbor are so extreme that the ships have to depart well before low tide. Due to this it is said it's not because the ships want us back to take us to the cleaners in their casinos or buy their liquor. Take it for what it's worth. I did Google the harbor tides, the Port of Cabo San Lucas and didn't come up with anything.
rvsullivan Posted December 31, 2019 #14 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Tidal ranges for Cabo range from 2-6 feet, not extreme at all!
glrounds Posted January 1, 2020 #15 Share Posted January 1, 2020 The general consensus from what I've heard is problems with the WIND. Since Los Cabos is a tender port, this can be problematic. However, with all my cruises on the MR, I don't recall this ever happening.
PekingeseLady Posted January 1, 2020 #16 Share Posted January 1, 2020 I have sailed where we couldn't port in Cabo and missed that port because of high winds. I have also sailed here on Princess where we stayed anchored all night and you could tender back and forth, I'm not positive because I'm in bed, but the Tenders may have stopped between 11:30pm and 6am or they were only every half hour. This was really nice, but you couldn't gamble in the Casino that night. I have sailed Carnival and we would leave and come back in the morning. But I wouldn't stay in Cabo do to the fact that I know they can miss the port.
CruisinPedsNurse Posted January 4, 2020 #17 Share Posted January 4, 2020 There would be nothing wrong with getting stranded in Cabo! I was there for a week in May and it was beautiful! I would love to go back . Just my personal opinion 😎

DH & I are going on her in April and taking lots of short 3-day cruises before then in order to obtain Diamond on our Panorama cruise; 3 more left in 'our mission'. I'm interested to know what diamond perks they give you on this trip.
Bollycats Posted January 15, 2020 #19 Share Posted January 15, 2020 I was on a Princess 2 day Cabo cruise in 2018 and we were anchored over night. The tenders ran all night, just not as frequently as earlier in the day. If you wanted to party all night and go back to the ship at 3AM you could! It's a shame Carnival doesn't do this. Carnival will give me OBC equal to 25% of my cruise fare on this cruise. I've been Platinum for quite some time, but alas, after this cruise short of Diamond by 44 nights. Quite frankly, I see very little DIFFERENCE in the Diamond perks over the Platinum perks (look at the chart Carnival provides). The Platinum and Diamond party is still together and I don't use the increased FREE laundry benefit that much. At age 80, there is good logic in assuming I will probably not make Diamond, however.🙄
Rare Wanna_Cruize Posted January 15, 2020 #21 Share Posted January 15, 2020 Sorry, misunderstood. I agree there are not many extra Diamond perks over Platinum, except in our case. Being in CA, we regularly take the short weekend cruises, just as a getaway. Because they are so short, no P&D party, no chocolate-covered strawberries (in whatever condition), etc. So by making Diamond (finally) we will at least have a Diamond event even on the 3-day cruise. The last couple of weekenders we have been on, there have only been a handful of D's onboard, but they still get a party with free drinks and lots of crew present. Have a great cruise! I'd love to hear your thoughts on Panorama. Also, if you are going to the steakhouse, I'd love to see pics of the wine list there. We have reservations for the first night, and was interested to see what the choices are.
