Rare pierces Posted January 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2020 Pictures taken between Monday, January 20 and Sunday, January 26. Rules: See above That's it. This isn't a contest. All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising). Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize. The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays. Post one. Post many. Up to you. Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others! Docker123 Posted January 25, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2020 These may have been from week 4, but will put them here as the thread is lonely. Some water Lilly shots in the Williamstown Botanic Gardens (Melbourne, Oz). Not quite Giverny, but very nice spot.

And if so, how best to get there. I will be there twice during next month (including an overnite on Norwegian Jewel)

I will be there twice during next month (including an overnite on Norwegian Jewel) The Botanic Gardens is really quite small and not really a must see itself. Of course, Williamstown is a beautiful and historic seaside village. Good day trip, especially of the weather is nice. Easiest way is by train. Only about 20-30 minutes from the city. Get off at last stop (Williamstown, not North or Beach) and easy walk down to Commonwealth Reserve where the tourist info centre is located. Maps and things to see. I am not sure if they tell people, but the 471 bus goes past that centre to the beach ( and runs alongside the Botanic Gardens). As you would have a Myki card, can use it as a hoho. 2552phxcrzr Posted January 25, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 25, 2020 (edited) Went to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs to test my new Sony α6400 mirrorless camera with a Sony E 70-350mm lens (105-525mm with the crop factor). The kit is a keeper. Edited January 25, 2020 by 2552phxcrzr

A couple of ferry options, although I have not them. the Williamstown-St Kilda one also stops at Port Melbourne a few times a day. The more regular ferry is from Southbank in the city. Both are not cheap, but sailing across the bay should be nice on a good day. They come into the same Pier in Williamstown, which is adjacent to the tourist info centre.
Rare pierces Posted January 26, 2020 Author #8 Share Posted January 26, 2020 Last Sunday was very rough, emotionally. To take my mind off things, I put in some longer than normal hours at work and into the home improvement projects. What you see here is the result of grinding out the latest phase in modernizing our home. We had a big, noisy wall unit that struggled every year to cool our house during the worst of late summer. Lately, the struggle and the electric bill seemed worse than ever, so we decided to replace it with a two-circuit mini split system with the second unit cooling the entertainment room directly (retiring the box fan). They are nearly silent and heat in the winter is a nice bonus. We even made the wall shiny where we had to heal the gaping wound Frankencooler's departure of left in it. zackiedawg Posted January 29, 2020 #12 Share Posted January 29, 2020 Adding to the birds for this thread, here are a few of my wetlands shots from Saturday, taken with the Sony A6600 and FE200-600mm lens: Snowy egret feeding in the shallows with his reflection: A female anhinga drying off her wings, backlit by the sun: A cormorant flying fast and low over the water: An osprey flying home with a fish dinner: A great blue heron coming down to land in strong backlight, shooting into the sun: An ibis coming in to land at sunset:
