agnesd Posted January 31, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2020 The buffet has a bar at the front and then an alfresco dining area. Does the bar and alfresco remain open all day for drinks and relaxing.?

Dogma4 Posted January 31, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 31, 2020 Which cruise line operates Sky? Have you consulted the ship's website or posted this query over on the appropriate forum for the cruise line that operates the Sky?
Rare Host Kat Posted January 31, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 31, 2020 @agnesd Howdy again! I see two Roll Call forums for ships named Sky. If you are sailing Princess Sky, I suggest you research the Princess Cruises forum. If you are sailing Viking Sky, I suggest you research the Viking Ocean forum. Your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed your ship frequent the forum for your ship's cruise line. I feel sure anyone that has sailed your ship will help you with feedback there concerning your topic here, the buffet bar. Also, please browse through the thread titles on the forum for your ship's cruise line looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that will be of interest to you. Anytime you need to start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information they will reply to you. It is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your inquiry. That will help the members have the information they need in order to help you. I sincerely hope this will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic! Happy sails, Host Kat

retiredman Posted January 31, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 31, 2020 The Aquavit Bar which you describe, is open from 10a.m. to 10pm. As far as I know, you can sit outside anytime you like. The area is around the infinity pool.

Rare Clay Clayton Posted February 1, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 1, 2020 In addition to the area around the pool, you can sit at the tables in The World Cafe (the buffet) also. But given the many other spaces with more comfortable seating, I don’t know why you would. 😂
CILCIANRQTS Posted February 1, 2020 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2020 The officers like to sit at the tables tucked away beside the Aquavit bar. I think it gets them out of the general flow of traffic so they can relax without interruption.

deec Posted February 2, 2020 #16 Share Posted February 2, 2020 I think on the newest ships there is a cooking station in that area now too. Anyone from the Orion or Jupiter can you comment. Clay totally agree The evening "special dinners" set out on the Terrace an be very good!!!
WestW Posted February 2, 2020 #17 Share Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) We spent 38 days on the Orion this past August / September. There is a cooking station aft port side near the bar. For dinner they often served made-to-order pasta, noodle bowls and stir fried dishes. With the diversity of eating options, we never longed for something not offered. I had noticed her dining alone a couple of nights so my wife and I sidled up to her and invited her to go on a couple of custom excursions with us to places she had not been. Sadly, I think that the Corporate boss stepped in and didn't allow her to come with us. Guess they considered it to be bad form for her to go out with the guests. Deec - the Aquavit special items are good but I also wanted to be sure that the OP knew about the steaks, salmon and such that are made to order inside.

We would always go there first just to see what they had that evening. We got to know the "chef" there quite well! (They also did custom omelettes in the morning, and pasta at lunch). The best part about the station is that it took some traffic away from the main part of the World Cafe and you could tell the flow difference. A great idea! Hope that put it on the new Venus as well (Orion has it too).
haydn12 Posted February 4, 2020 #21 Share Posted February 4, 2020 I didn't realize they had that station opposite the Aquavit Bar for almost a week on our cruise. I hit it every night after that! Jim

In our experience, spouses have been put to work during excursions. The captain’s wife went along on one of our excursions to help corral the passengers for the tour guide. I think that the bridge instructor’s wife helped out on another excursion in the same capacity.
deec Posted February 5, 2020 #23 Share Posted February 5, 2020 During our WC the Captain's wife was onboard and she was delightful and very much a part of the "crew" acting as official hostess many times as we were in first time Viking ports. On occasion she was dressed in an elaborate and beautiful Scandinavian costume. She was so very friendly and engaging definitely added to the Viking experience. We have always enjoyed when some of the entertainers become "escorts" during excursions...always thing of it as a "back of the house" tour too! Thanks, Viking!
